wow really my dad bought one new back in 87 it was a conquest tsi pretty quick nothing great but not too bad he had a automatic and it was never in the shop...he had 213k miles on it when he dumped it.

Great cars, if you can find one that was well cared for.. I have two Starions and they can do everything the Z can do.. The Starion and Supra were right along side the Z cars.. By the way, there is no STI.. You mean either the Starion ESIR or the Conquest TSI.. Both cars were the same thing except for trim.
A:
The conquest look better right?... What year is the best?

Both of his cars were straight drive.
I just remember one problem after another with those cars and both of them cracked their exhaust manifolds as well.
Maybe you will get lucky and get a good one.
The later model cars with the fender bulges did look great though.

The Starion and Conquest are the same engine as my parent's old Plymouth Voyager with the Mitsubishi 2.6 liter engine.
Except the turbocharged portion.
What to consider: parts availability and/or mechanic that's willing to service them. Not too many were there to begin with and not sure more than ever now. The same went with my friend's Mitsubishi Cordia turbo (1.8 liter turbo)
My old high school friend had one and told me it sucked.

I'd love to have a later one with the wider look body. I'm a big fan of Mitsu. I've had 2 Eclipses and my mom had a wicked 3000GT. I'd rather have a Starion than a Z31 in all honosty, if I had the choice :) Even though I love Z cars the Starion looks pretty slick.

If you remember the 80's for Chrysler, it was nothing to be proud of. Chrysler was almost dead, but the government bailed them out and Iacocca built the American dream, the K car. Terrible.
I will tell you, I love Conquests/Starions. They are pretty cars. But I will tell you, prepare to have problems, mainly... Head gaskets everytime you get in the boost. Get rid of the jet valves also.
A:
My friend had one for a while and it was pretty fun to drive. Comfortable sporty seats. Great handling and quick.
Watch for wheel spin though when the auto tranny drops a gear and you instantly hit boost. Thats why I hate autos.

i love them, they have loads of potential, if you have the proper supporting mods... btw, they are not "sti" the conquest is a "TSI"

yeah, by one if you like changine headgaskets. seems as though it was a common problem for ANY 80's to early 90's mitsu product. They can be made pretty damned fast tho! they are sweet looking cars when done up proper. I would rather spend the money on a 87+ 300ZX turbo tho....

I think they look good, but I've heard so many bad things about the engine I wouldnt want to own one. Although if you could drop a 4G63 in one you might be in business.

Speaking of the 4g63, hear you go, give this company a call.

Here is a video of their starquest (BTW, if you will have to call your car a starquest cause thats what all the owners seem to do, And it is not a Chrysler, it was only imported by Chrysler) HAHHA LOL

Definately though, get rid of that 2.6, save tons of head aches.

Buschur knows their stuff...I have one of their stage 3 4g63s in my 91 GSX. 8.5:1 compression on a turbo motor, knife edge crank shaft, ARP bolts, complete rebuild, forged pistons and rods, capable of over 700hp to the wheels >: )

I almost bought one before getting my supra but it sold before I had the cash.. I think I remember reading about some crankshaft issue they have and since they are a performance geared vehicle they probably have all kinds of little idiosyncrosies related to the breed. Ive heard they are torque monsters though. I would definitely read up on them and buy a well taken care of example so your not sorting out problems from the get go. Id say if you can keep a 30 year old z car running you can keep a conquest on the road. Read up on there common problems and determine if you are capable of fixing these yourself. I never would of bought a supra if I couldnt change a head gasket but since I can Ive kept the car out of the shop and saved myself a lot of money and have had a reliable car for 2 years now.

I was also looking at one of these cars recently and after reading starion forums not just the head gasket problem but you would have to put alot of money in the rearend to handle the power.

i have been looking for one - im strikly a Z guy but love to drive cars that are diff that you dont see every day and have some power and potintial and im partial to rwd so a starion or conquest is near the top my list as of now - sure camos and mustanges are great and what a deal you can get on a fox 50 but everyone and there mom and there mothers dogs kitty cat owns these
the Z was the first car i got mostly just upon chance though a z32tt had always been a dream and that is what i have stuck with - i think if it happened to be a supra or rx or starion conquest they might have been what i stuck with but would have always wanted to own some Zs as well - just as now i woudl like to own an rx or 2 along with a supra and maybe a 240sx an older celica starion conquest just for the fun of it
ive always been anti crysler but i think they would be a fun car and a car that you dont see every day that has a turbo and drives with the rear wheels - well id like to try it - if they swing it would be more fun then my z31 - although i know all it needs it to be opened up some with some exhaust and give it some boost
- i need to stop being lazy and get the s30 boosting

Head gaskets aren't the only thing to go on them. I've found several that I wouldn't touch because the number 4 cylinder for some reason blows before the rest.
