Mythbusters busted?

General Chat

Q:

Just got done watching them bust the "myth" of the car crushed between two semis. The myth stated that a european compact was sandwiched in a head-on between semis. The wreckage was hauled off but days later, people started smelling something funny, and discovered the crushed import between the two trucks. I found it interesting that they declared the myth busted based on their test results, but what about this?

Granted the situation is different in that the car was rear ended into the next semi, I don't know if I would be able to say the myth was busted. These two semis seemed fairly well fused and the car was pretty screwed. I bet if the rear semi had been traveling faster, the car would have been very difficult to detect in the crash and the driver would have almost surely been mashed. Love the show though, but I had to point this out after Jamie said "Myth totally busted, no way it could happen."

Er, none of the metal was physically fused together in this real video. I think you misunderstood what they busted: it was the claim that the trucks would be physically fused so that they were towed as one unit to a junkyard, and that the car in between would be unrecognized as a car. In that news video, the trucks easily come apart, and it's obvious there is a car between them.

"Myth totally busted, no way it could happen."
So your agreeing with that statement that was based on 1 test at an uneven speed, uneven striking point. You agree that they can absolutely for sure say that this could never ever happen? I would have said plausible but extremely unlikely.

Anything can happen! The show isn't going to go into the plausibility if the one semi was going 7000 mph in a vacuum, while the other was... Reality!
A:

I don't think it's possible. There is no way that two semi's can get so fused together that you would miss a vehicle between them.

The only show I remember in any detail is when they painted up their sexy red headed assistant in the gold (or was it silver? oh, who cares what color it was) paint. She was in a bikini. I wouldn't have minded one bit to be the one to apply a coat of paint on her.
God must love stupid people, he made SOOOOO many of them!

The show "busts" so many things that are DEFINITELY plausible. Now it may only be plausible in 1 out of 1000 situations...which they'll never encounter--but it IS plausible. I think they do a very good job on most stuff but if you're human you know that NOTHING is impossible.

The other end of that myth was that the import fused the 2 trucks together.
However, that guy should come to Vegas. Anyone that lucky definately will have the odds on his side.

Z32 Had to sell for DD 06 Sentra :(
S30 one of these days I will get around to putting it all back together.

Well, ok, if you define plausible that way.. then yes.
They are not very scientific.... and am I the only one who hates that new guy (the white guy, not the asian dude) who always hurts himself or screws up what he builds??? He's a real hack. You can watch any given show and know that whatever he builds will fail or not be enough to prove the myth.

While I don't know if the trucks can be fused together, I do know that a car can dissappear between two semis. I saw it happen a few years ago. The news was showing the accident between two semis and no one could see anything in between. Nobody knew there was a car in the middle until the wreckers pulled them apart a few hours later.

z32d00d that guy can be kinda annoing, but he does drive a Z, a 280Z i belive, they use it in the myth of if a toy car will roll faster down a hill than a real car.
A:

They ran out of time and it was too expensive to get another car - wrecked twice - the way they pulled the semi's could not control a direct hit.
One of them said that they would likely have to revisit the myth later.
Now about Kari - it's not about brushing on the paint - it's about gently removing the paint - slowly soak lather and rinse - repeat - repeat - repeat - repeat - repeat - re
