This isn't a question intended to be prying into something that's not my business, but I have a reason for asking. Do the customer service reps get paid a commission of what they sell? Here's why I ask:
I was ordering parts during my 90 minute commute home about a month ago. I was on hold for probably ten minutes as the rep (very polite) offered to go to the warehouse to check the part in order to answer my specfic question. While waiting, the cell battery died. I didn't remember his name & when I called back I didn't think to ask for "the guy who went to check on xxxx two hours ago." He spent a few minutes on the phone ordering parts for me before he went to check the item. In all, he probably spent 15-20 minutes with me, & if is on commission, got zero for his going above & beyond for me. I remembered that I felt bad about it.

They do. And if it's items that are marked discontinued, they get an extra amount.

I don't know how they work, but I do know they are awesome. When I made my order for my cam and multiple other parts they emailed me back and walked through my engine and all my plans to make sure I was getting the parts I needed. The next time I ordered a cam kit for a friends ZX they emailed me again to make sure I didn't select the wrong kit and that I didn't need anything else. It's nice to have someone who's more worried about getting the right part than just what you ordered.

Now that is funny, I guess the call VB and tell them to up the price on the same parts when that happens... Mastro52 what do you base this information on?
dkd021, when you get you invoice it comes with the persons name on the bill. I know they have there own ext, take a sec and at the start ask for it? Plus I think you can get the names from the phone system if memory serves me right. Most of them are good guys some aren't. But unlike VB who only wants a part number because they have no ideal if the part will fit your car.
If you find someone you like you can always ask for them by name or ext the next time you call.

About waiting on hold for ten minutes...when they finally do answer, they always treat you like you are the only customer on the planet. Makes you feel kinda like a V.I.P

"they always treat you like you are the only customer on the planet"
Brian, that's a good way to put it. I was on hold for 10 minutes because he was checking my specific part (he told me it would take a while because he physically went into the warehouse to check my part BEFORE I ordered it). That's why I say he went above & beyond. I bought something else yesterday from them. Of all of the vendors I've bought from while getting my 240Z done, hands down they're the best. I had a problem once, called, & it was fixed ASAHP.
I can't stand VB, & in too many cases, are way too expensive.
