Driving a Ford Freestyle V6 the past week. Straaaaange!
Hammer it and it's like a snomobile, jumps to 5800rpm, STAYS there, and just goes faster and faster.
110 in Maryland at the Deleware border before hitting the brakes for Waeker Road....
Straaaange feeling.

Too bad you can't carry those old hard-side suitcases with the travel destination stickers stuck on them like in the vintage movies. You'd need five or six just to cover your world-wide excursions.
Be safe and arrive home soon.
A:
Lost of security stickers around the splitline on that baby!
heading home tomorrow...

Ford's strategy is better than than Nissan Murano's, which under full throttle doesn't immediately go to max power rpm, but lets the revs creep up with speed. Sounds more "right", but is of course the wrong approach for maximum acceleration!
The most fun car I ever drove was a Formula 440 at Road Atlanta way back in '94. ~70hp 440cc 2-stroke snowmobile drivetrain. In a ~600 lb. car! Just makes a continuous single-pitch droning sound on the throttle. Not exactly an inspiring sound, but functional!

Honda’s CVT briefly came up this weekend. My brother wants commuter the lane status in CA bad. Currently investigating Honda and Toyota offerings.

CVT's are pretty neat!
I remember first seeing them in Glorias several years ago.
We just need to wait until they can handle more power.
Then we can use a simple computer program to set "gear ratios" to our liking.
We can artificially create a 5 speed or an 8 speed gearboxes.
Nissan was one of the first to go big with the CVT's and mass produce them.

They are strange, remind me more of a Cessna 172 than a car. I love the design though.
'73 Turbo, not much stock. Sold now... :-(

My first exposure was via snowmobile. We picked up the Ski-Doo(Bombardier) line and I found myself selling high altitude springs and ramps for them. Lots of belts as well.

eh, they been around a long time. hell a 87 justy of mine had one.

That snowmobile feeling was wierd in a large vehicle like that.
I mean in an Alto or Justy, something small, it compares with size to a Snowmobile.
But in something like a fullsize van with a DOHC V6 burning away with decent HP, it really is strange!
I started driving the thing like I do a snowmobile, AND THAT IS BAD!
I came in my father-in-laws back door one winter, and his immediate comment was "The throttle has more than two damn positions wildman!"
With a CVT, it's OPEN till cruise, then shut/modulate, OPEN to pass, shut/modulate....
But you end up holding it open far longer than you should so it's more like OPEN coast to corner entry speed, OPEN out of corner, coast to next entry....
This is BAD! You know, when you get the trann hot enough, you can hear the belt inside squealing. That can't be good! LOL
