Q:
This is non z related. I'm finishing up the mr2 (mk1) in my garage. Today I start with the bottom end. When I go to connect the connecting rods and pistons I notice the piston pin is much smaller and there are no grooves in the piston for retaining clips. You guessed it #$%* they delivered the full floating 4ag pins and pistons.
So my question is can I have pigger bushings installed in the connecting rods to make up the difference in the pin size? By the way we are talking maybe 1 1.5mm max.

just me, but personally I wouldn't want to take the chance on something so critical. Better to wait for the proper pins than be driving around thinking your fine and then 2000 miles later you throw a rod and destroy the engine. Just isn't worth the chance.

No the pins and pistons fit fine. It's the rods that don't fit. Basically the 4ag came with a bunch of variations of pistons, pins, rods, and cranks. It pretty much almost changed year to year and car to car. The connecting rods are what need to be changed or modifed. The pistons fit fine as well as everything else.

So the hole in the rod ends are bigger in diameter than the pins, right?
I still think I'd wait to get the proper rods, rather then having bushings made. Its just one more part that can wear out or fail which could potentially destroy the whole engine.
