Look for the pre-cut tint off ebay for whatever model car you have. Its much easier using that than trying to cut your own from a bulk roll. most of the pre-cut is under $50.

Looks like a pain IMO, probably gonna need a plastic masonry knife, for putty, or something along those lines, spray bottle with water (I think?),and at least 1 good sharp razor blade. Of course, I'm not interested in trying it but that seemed to be all the tools the proffessional used last time I had windows tinted. Good luck and let us know if it works!

How much does it cost to get all the windows done for a 240z at a shop?

Depends on the shop - I had just my rear glass quoted for $100 - HAH! I can buy about 10 bulk rolls for myself to get it right for that price. Anyways, you need some tape (nothing really sticky) or some sort of tacky stuff to hold the tint in the same place while you're cutting. You can also use a ruler to help keep the cut straight. Get plenty of SOAPY water on the tint, so that you can position it just right without it sticking to the glass. You do this after you've already cut it, of course. Then, you can grab a roller of some sort -- say, a paint roller for instance (or hell, even a bread / dough roller could work) and use it to work all of the bubbles out once you have the tint in place. If you screw up, it's much cheaper for you to try again. Good luck

Pro tinter told me lemon Joy is the best soap to use. Probably true, the last time I tinted, I used some environmentally friendly stuff that didn't work so hot.
Clean the He77 out of the glass.
Dust is your #1 enemy.
Hardest to tint on the Z are those little windows that don't roll up or down. A squeegee works good for pressing out the bubbles, and they're free from gas stations.

You have to clean the glass really well with a WHITE scouring pad (DO NOT USE THE GREEN ONE as it will scratch the glass and mess up the defoster lines).
Lay the tint on the outside of the window and cut it. Then you can see how its gonna lay on the glass when yo uare ready for the inside lay.
When you are ready to peel the back layer off the glass lay it on a house window sprayed down with soapy water and stick it up on there to peel it (its much easier than trying to do it on a table this way).
Then the fun part of actually getting it on your glass. spray the hell out of the window with soapy water. align it on the top and squeege it on the top edges down. Then move the bottom up enough to slide the bottom ends under the window rubber. If your window has enough of a curvature on it the tint will not lay flat on the whole window and its best to use a heat gun to shrink it as you squeege on those wrinkles. a blow dryer wont work.
GET ALL THE AIR BUBBLES OUT. If you leave any it looks terrible and you cannot fix them after its dried.
My neighbor has been doing tint for 30 years and he did my vette in 1.5 hours with precut tint and charged me $60 and as i watched really close. there is no way id try my vette myself, but the z cars have flatter windows with alot less curve in them and would be much easier.

I thought about tinting my windows while they were out of my Z so that I could get the whole glass and not just what shows when the windows are up.
