Car shipper in San Antonio area

General Chat

Q:

Does anyone know of a reliable transporter in the San Antonio area. I just bought a 1983 280zx with 52k miles and I have to ship it about 275 miles to my location . I am planning to make the move on Nov. 28. Thanks for your help.

Are you moving from SA or to SA?
You can't rent a dolly or trailer and tow it, that would be much cheaper?
Could it be driven 275 miles?
I don't know of one off hand but I'll look at the yellow pages and post back what I find.
By the way welcome to the forums...

The car has not been drive in a while, several years, so rather than take a chance and drive it at highway speed before I have it checked out I would rather trailer it but I don't have a hitch and can't put one on my car. I don't know any one that has a truck or large enough car with a hitch. Also I would rather pay some one else $300 to bring me the car rather than drive 275 miles to get it and then drive another 275 miles back home towing it. I got some estimates but I thought I would ask in case some one could recommend a shipper.

Well then, I'd talk to a local body shop that has a flatbed truck.......
ask them if they would/could pick it up......how much, and/or recommend
someone local.
at least you'll have control over it's 'destiny' ....hehehe
I've done this before here, slightly shorter distance, but it worked for me ! !
PeeEss..........BIG thanx for reducing the CAPS ! ! ! ! !

You can sometimes work out a better deal if it is a back haul for them on their time frame.

Lord, man, it's hardly broken in!
Bought my 83ZX with 60K miles on it a year ago. It had been driven about 5K miles in the last 5 years. The PO changed the oil, checked the fluids and made sure the 9 year old tires were properly inflated. Drove it home at 75 and 80 without a problem. Had a great big grin on my face the whole 1,700 miles back!
Drive on!

Thanks to Cyind for the list of shippers. I got a list on line but was hoping some one could recomend a shipper from personal experience.

Here is a thought... E-mail Troy, he was our former Z Club Pres, and is still the web master, news letter editor and his wife holds the money. He can e-mail members who might be able to help you out. I know he has used someones trailer to haul his 240 around before. If I still had my 4x4 I would have hauled it for you if you got a u-haul trailer, but the gas hog had to go and none of my cars have hitches on them. You can get his e-mail address from the club site http://www.z-sport.com/
Are you coming to SA or leaving?
Hadley Auto Transport hauls new cars from the rail head to dealers around the state and I think they back haul... Ask a local ford dealer who drops off their new cars and what days they get them.
Royal Drive SA is a service that move new cars from the rail head to a lot about 2 miles away, which is then loaded on transports. A couple of years ago I worked for them on weekends when they needed help just for fun of driving new cars. I know they also drove around the state with used cars so you might not use them.
If you run out of options buy me a bus ticket if it can be driven and I'll do it! I'm going to Corpus Christi for turkey day and should be back in town by the 26th... I'm close to IH-35 and Loop 410...
Good luck!
