straight 8 for your swap

General Chat

Q:

I have a straight eight from my 34 pontiac, first to show up at my house gets it for free. I'll load it with my tractor.
It about as big as a z car. That shifter will look nice in a z.

You could get BIG BUCKS from someone that was looking to restore a car to stock condition that used those flathead 8's and needed an engine and a trans.?
I would suggest putting an ad in on this site http://www.collectorcartraderonline.com/ Who knows?
Best of luck...

According to tkr514 That motor can easily be brought into the tens in any car, so you might want to take lessons from him on how to do that, as he has more experience here than anyone else.
Yea there neat motors. Thats for sure. Most of the eights in that era were flat head. Except for buicks and Duesenburgs, which were OHV, and the Duesys were OHC, OHV, 4 valves per cylinder, but wait, thats a modern design right? HAHHAHA, I love it, when We take our duesnburg hot rod to shows, and they say, WAIT, that cant be, that design didnt come out till the eighty's, LOL.
This post goes NICE with the one in TECH BTW.

I thought you guys would get a kick out of the picture after reading the other post. I'll probably end up trying to sell the beast, but it would be nice if someone just showed up and hauled it off. I've never tried to turn it over, who knows.
A:

Somebody should design a DOHC head for that thing...

Yeah, I'm in Colorado. For some reason I am thinking of the time I hauled an V8 in the back of my VW rabbit and the guy in front of me slammed his breaks at a yellow light.

Hmmm... Guess my comments aren't appreciated.

It is really starting to take off. I got the last piece I needed for the supercharger. One of the older guys at work almost cried when I said I was tossing the straight eight and putting in a big block chevy. This is gonna be one fun car, my wife is even excited to ride in it. She hasn't been into my car projects since the time I almost crashed us in the 68 van when the road wa wet and we went sideways. I've got a lot of funny stories about that van. The first time I drove it after the 350 went in with open headers, the time the front wheel bearing went out, my brother almost sliding out the back door, my cousin operating the bull horn while driving in town, so many fun times in that old ugly thing.

Contact some specialty clubs for GM, Pontiac and associated Antique Auto clubs.
That engine should be restored to go into a vintage Pontiac - they don't make these anymore so let the hot rodders use new crate engines.
I believe in saving the old stock autos and parts as best you can and lesser ones can be modified if that's what is wanted.

And it's good for about 105 hp.. I'd bet you dump some Marvelous Mystery oil in the cylinders, let it sit for 3 or 4 days, put new plugs in it, dump some gas in the carb and it would start right there on the floor. Whoaaa Nellie.!!
