Q:
Hey everyone,
This might be car related. I have an idea for a web forum and I am wondering what is the best way to get started? Has anyone here done it before? Does it cost a lot? Any advice? This would not be a forum linked to an existing web site. The forum would BE the site, like zcar.com.
Thanks!

I don't how many more Z forums the Internet needs!
If you do decide to go for it however you need to:
1. Buy a domain name (godaddy.com)
2. Find a host to hold the web files (serverpro.com)
3. Find forum software, unless otherwise provided (phpbb.com)
A little web knowledge doesn't hurt either.

It wouldnt be a z forum. when I said it would be like zcar.com I meant that the site would be a forum and not a site associated with a forum like some of the club sites.
Thanks for the info

Yep, I think that is the way I was going to go. I am a software engineer so I know my way around the computer. I have done s little bit of web programming but I havent done php since college. I am sure there are starter scripts out there. phpbb.com looks pretty interesting.

Find a web host that offers pre installed phpbb scripts. Go into the control panel and simply click the install button, and make the forum the index. When people visit your site, the main page is the forum. Like my site, http://got-z.com
Go with this company http://psek.com. Ive been with them for 3 years. All other hosting companies are jokes. Heres the pre installed stuff i was telling you about, offered by PSek http://www.psek.com/demo/fantastico.
So all you do, is pay the hosting fee, click a few buttons, and you have a forum! It takes about 30 seconds to install from start to finish.
