So I was finishing up the prep work to put the car back together and decided to do the oil pump pickup gasket. So I take the pickup off the engine and as I was setting it on the floor it slipped out of my hands and hit my new radiator.
I got this bad feeling, because it is an aluminum unit. I check it out very close, ans ure enough, I see where the pickup hit the coolint tube and put a little divit in the tube. I get the magnafier out and look at the spot, yes you guessed, there is a tint rip in the top of the tube, so now I have to fix the radiator.
I just dont have good luck with that kind of stuff, what a pain in the butt. I do hope the welder can fix it properly and he doesn't have to cut the ends of the tube at the end tanks to fix it. The ding is very small, but I DONT want to revisit this problem again in the future.
anyway, just another dayt in paradice right.

Too freaking cheap to put a cardboard "maintenance liner" on the radiator fins?
I mean, you've had what....a YEAR to get that protective layer installed?
Kinda like complaining your car slipped off the jack after three months up in the air without jackstands...
Honk! Honk!

Hey Jeff,
While you are here on the banter, i have a question. Im reading about the z31 lsd on your page. Looking at what you say, the z31 lsd will go right up in stock location with a 280zx diff mount, and 280zxt halfshafts and of course companion flanges (thats a given)? Thanks.
Tony ill be emailing you for some advice in the next couple of weeks.

Jeff-
That really sucks. I hope the radiator can be handled with some welding, but just to give you a little feedback on radiators and welds. I use to have a 77 Delta 88 that was totally re done inside and out. I had a similar problem happen with a huge aluminum custom Be-Cool radiator I was placing in it. I took it to a radiator shop to have them fix it.
After installing and 2 car shows later the radiator sprung a leak right where it was welded. Now I don't know the guy you have fixing the thing, but I sure hope yours turns out better then mine.
Good luck.
Also, sorry for the thread jack, I have a question for you and Tony. You know that LD28 crank I bought from you awhile back. Well now that I think about it I might go for the 3.0 setup with the L28. Would it still be better to go with the LD28 stroker for a 3.1. Or stay with a L28 stroker to a 3.0.
Just remember my turbo setup is almost the same as what you currently have in your car now. GT35R turbo, custom mani, etc... I'm just going the Megasquirt 2 route for the control.
So L28 or LD28??
Progress:
Z32 Had to sell for DD 06 Sentra :(
S30 one of these days I will get around to putting it all back together.

I would stroke and use the minimum overbore possible for torque and drivability.
The larger bores I don't like under heavy boost. But that's just me...

Like I have said a number of times, I did the calculations, and in my opinion, anything over 3.0 (with the LD28 crank) is a waste of time money and possibly an engine of you are going to be running in the 2 BAR range of boost.
Get your rod/stroke ratio in the 1.75: or higher and go at it that way. You will produce some good torque that way.
I have talked to guys that went with a 84mm stroke on their engine, but for the cost to me it was really expensive to have done.
That is correct, the stock, or the Nismo diff cover will fit perfectly with the stock mount into the zx cars.
