I do not remember what show I heard about this on - it was some type of tech show that covered a wide range of topics including their experience with cryotreatment of one of the hosts razors. It was on Discovery I believe but has been at leat 7 or 8 years since it was on.
Two guys were hosts.
They showed a car with this type of item installed. It used noise cancellation to cancel out the existing exhaust sound from the regular everyday car then had the V8 or other sports car exhaust sound play from the speakers . It sounded very realistic.

Realistic or not, it's another pointless piece of crap to flood the market place and lower a few more IQ points for those that find it interesting. If you want the sound of a V8 then get one. If you want the sound of an inline 6 (you know the real sports car sound) get a Z. I would be more interested in a device that cancels the exhaust noise completely so that when I free flow my exhaust it doesn't sound like it...Can you say sleeper?
