Well as many of you know I have a 95 stang GT with only a handful of mods, bolt on junk.
I was out going to pick up a new slave cylinder, the auto store is on the "strip" and it was Saturday night. I was in my modded 280, and right off the bat I see a red stang GT 5.0 just like mine trying to get next to me. The two guys in it smiled and reved at me, I didn't do anything except smile back. We ended up at the next light together. The passenger tells me I have a nice car but too bad it's only a 6 and slow! I just laughed and said yeah I'm sure your stock stang with flowmasters will really tear me up, laughing. He said they more mods, I said bullshit, I know the sound of a built 5.0. I said you better have spray cause your gonna need it.
He reved I knew it didn't even have a cam, his rev was over at maybe 6K probably more like 5800. I punched it once and let him hear 7800 rpm and how quick it gets there. There expressions changed a little. Anyway he launched fairly good, I stayed right at his door waiting for him to hit 2nd. As he caught 2nd beside me I hit it and instantly put 2 cars between us, then caught 2nd hit 65 real quick and let off. He had given up when I hit 2nd. At the next light I told him, I have a stang like his only with more mods and it doesn't stand a chance against my "slow 6". They were cool though and said they had a new respect for the Z's I said yeah just watch out for the turbo's.

some states would take your licence and crush your car for doing that.

For going 65 in a 55? Or for rapid acceleration? Or what?
I'm in a state were they can and will confiscate your car for racing, but not petty stuff like this. I also guarantee you I can make one phone call and everything would be dropped, no attorney's or cost involved.

Well we all know, as it has been discussed many times, what the stipulations are for street racing in most states. When someone wants to talk about a street race I don't see why someone else always needs to chime in with how it's illegal. So, thank you Captain Obvious, but your ship has set sail... Bu bye now...

no, if i was captian obvious i'd say that 2 loosers in a heavier stang would always have a tougher time than one serious guy in a lighter z.
the confiscation part is not so obvious and varies between states, and cities, and officers on duty. since everyone knows it's illegal it does make me smile that people still broadcast illegal behaviour on the world wide web.

Always fun to read stories like these. They should make a book of pure street races, now that's an idea. As usual, this wasn't a race between cars, but a battle of specific car knowledge.

Thanks TKR for correcting my spelling, without pointing it out, sometimes I'm not the best speller!
Anyway my Z is not that special. I run a professionally built 3.0L that made 243 rwhp at sea level. This motor continues to build power to over 8K but I have it limited at 7800, and usually shift at 7600 or so.
With the 82 5spd & 3.90 it easily runs to 40 in 1st & 70 in 2nd - a little faster if I actually run it to 7800. This is one of those cammed up motors that people say make no power or torque until 4000, which I find funny since it is a constant battle for traction in 1&2 and thats just hitting the throttle from like a 5mph roll. Pulls 107 in the 1/4 whereas my slightly modded stang pulls 100 on a good day.
My stock 78 I believe 2nd pulls to 55ish, not sure I haven't driven it in a while and I don't run it to hard.
