nzr, ka24e power potential vs ka24De?

General Chat

Q:

i just got a '90 s13, and i was considering buying h beam rods and fored pistons, and doing a turbo set up.. just as an example if i had the ka24E and the ka24DE with identical turbo set up's on the same amount of boost, how much more power would i see with the twin cam version, and also what is involved in swapping in the twin cam set up in from a 92+ s13?

The single cam motor is crap, honestly. The head of the dual cam model is told to flow much better. The dual cam motors setup right have been known to produce some good power. Neither of them can match the torque od the L motor though and the L will fit in the S13. The L is not a hard swap into the S13. When I drove my S13 coupe it felt like I was driving a comfy Z..;)

the DOHC motor is worlds better. also, the 12 valve motor has its distributer right where you would want to put the turbo.
If all were equal, none would be strong.

i was told by some friends that the DOHC head will bolt onto the SOHC block. dunno if there is any truth, just thought worth mentioning.

I know that the SOHC pistons put in the DOHC motor will make it high compression but I'm not sure of the years or if the rods need to be swapped as well. Just a little info but we're not talking high compression, we're talking reliability for a turbo install.
The VG30DETT (Z32) and the VQ30DE (Maxima) fit in there and they are becoming easier to find. Even though the VQ30DE is transverse I the Maxima, it can be turned and dropped in the S13.
Hybrid info I know of.
L motor= No mounting mods just an R32 X-member and maxima oilpan mod.
VG30DETT= X-member mods and mounting mods
VQ30DE= Intake swap, mounting mods and 350Z trans
All will require special wiring, plumbing, a custom driveshaft and possible shifter modding.
I just love the torque of the L....;)
KA24DE is the cheaper and easiest swap but going forged slugs, rods and turbo might set you back quite a few hard earned bucks. It would be cool for a daily driver.

No you CAN put a DC head on a single cam bock, works out to be 11-1 compression!!
