Q:
any one mounted a mechanican fuel pressure gauge on their car? on the rail is cool for setting intial pressure...but when driving i have no idea what the fuel is doing...just wondering if you guys have any neat ideas.
A:
Just buy a fuel pressure isolator/gauge. mount the isolater in engine compartment and then mount the gauge inside the car wherever you want it. mountinmg a gauge in engine compartment is bling bling for the most part as you want to monitor it as you drive and race. if you need to have one in engine compartment mount one there and also run one inside also.

Fuel pressure and boost guages are mounted where the heater controls used to be.

i want to mount my mechanical like on the cowl...i just like the mechancal gauges better...i have the one on the rail...it comes installed on pete's rails...but i can set initial pressure there...but after that i need to know what pressure is doin. i was just wondering if anyone made a sweet cowl setup

I believe Autometer makes a kit for mounting on the exterior. But why put an "A-hole attractor"on the outside of the car?

I also dont see why you really need one in car, if your fuel pressure is good it's good...

That way you can tell if your fuel pump can't keep up with fuel supply at higher rpms under load which would cause you to go lean. More important under boost then for N/A, but still good to know.

exaclty....i don't care how much fuel my car gets at idle...definatly isn't going to hurt a thing if there's not enough...but i'd like to tell where fuel pressure is when i'm on throttle. if you're stock or close to it...i'd agree...really no need...but with where the car is gonna be when i'm done in a couple months...i didn't spend all this time and money on this car and the parts involved to be guessing at my fuel pressure. if need be i will get the sender and intall the gauge inside just to avoid assholes who have to **** with things...but i like the instant feedback of a mechanical gauge...instead of the average of a digital.

a/f gauge?

good point 300zxt. Bama, fuel pressure can be nice and would help pinpoint an insufficient fuel pump, but to keep a good eye on your A/F to make sure you're not running lean, you can't do any better than a good wideband setup.

That's what I was thinking, your fuel pressure can be perfectly within spec but you still run lean in which case a fuel pressure gauge is useless in that instance.

i have a wideband gauge set up already, and it's logging in the SDS computer and displayed right next to the fuel values i have set at each RPM increment.
fuel values can be altered for longer injector pulse with the SDS system in the car.......but that doesn't mean that my pump is doing well or operating at optimum levels. i'm not askin for advise on what gauges i need to install for my car to perform the way i want it to safely..just if anyone has some pics of how they installed theirs.....i''m gonna fab a pod that's molded into the cowel panle...run the hose from below...if anyone has some pics...that'd be cool...i'd like to see what others have done.

Why dont you just upgrade the fuel pump to a 255lph Walbro pump or something simliar if it has you so concerned? They're like $90...
As for gauge location, the majority of people run them down the A-pillar.

a fuel pressure guage on the a-pillar?? sounds scary for a mechanical guage which is what he wants---
bama, i know exactly what you want...theres a video of a blue Z runnin an autox with a fuel pressure guage under the hood..by that i mean he poped his hood, but didnt unlatch it, and had a guage stuck right there in that little space...kinda neat...
but that requires your hood to be up? youve got to figure out how to route a hose so that you hood will still open if its attached to the hood...but i say cowl panel...run a hose throught the firewall where the winshield motor is, then cut a small hole, make a mouning bracket, weld it, and clean it up and paint it...
boom.
fuel pressure guage on the cowl panel!

that was the plan all along...but i just wanted to see how people set it up...if they used a single pod...maybe the formed something outta glass..i was just tryin to get ideas, but apparently it's not what i wanted at all...i guess i actually asked for someone to tell me what i really need and don't need.

Geez, I was just suggesting an a/f gauge because knowing your fuel pressure isn't going to tell you if you're running lean or not which from your posts appeared to be your intent.
Like said above, a gauge on the outside will probably get stolen and from the information I've read in the past for safety reasons installing a mechanical fuel pressure gauge in-car is too dangerous unless you go with what Brian suggested above and use a fuel pressure isolator. Besides that you might want to look at a digital gauge which you can then install on the a-pillar. But that kit from summit that Brian suggested looks real nice, then you can just mount it wherever you want just like a regular gauge but it looks like that particular one only reads up to 15psi.
