Q:
So I have been considering getting an early 90s 300zx 2+2 so I can have something a little more comfortable to drive with back seats for my kids. I put an add on craigslist saying that I would trade my 240Z for an early 90s 300zx. I have seen some 1990 300zx for around $4000 in average condition. I knew it was a long shot but I thought I might take a change and maybe someone out there REALLY wanted a 240z and didnt want their 300zx anymore. A car is worth as much as a person is willing to pay for it (especially when it comes to older cars). Plus I am willing to pay any difference if I find an interested party.
Here is the craigslist listing:

I recieved this email this morning:

"your a nut!!!! that's like saying I will trade a rusty can for a bar of gold. You are so dumb I must say you took the cake!!!"
_ _ _ _
That was wierd. I have not been called names since middle school. Oh well, so this is what I wrote back to him.

"Thanks for the input. However, My car is not rusty but in good condition. Good condition 240Zs can bring in $4000 - $10,000 depending on the condition. I have seen some 1990 300zx in poor to average condition for around $4000. I knew that it was a long shot but I took the chance that there may be someone out there who likes Zcars who has a 1990 that he never drives. And just maybe that person wants a classic project car to work on as a hobby (but my car does not need a lot of work). So I thought it wouldnt hurt to put a FREE classified add out there to do a little bit of fishing.
The 240zs are classics that are very desirable to some people, it is not just an old rusty car but means something special to those who now about Zcars."

So what do you think? Was I a dumb nut for even thinking of this?

Sounds like a pretty fair trade to me, although I think you would be the one losing out in the long run. But I am a 240 fan myself.
It's to bad your not over here in Okinawa, you could sell your Z for about $10,000 and pick up a 300ZX for about $1,000. TTs for not much more...
A:
That was a completely reasonable offer. I think you may have mis-interpreted the email though. I suspect he was actually comparing the 300ZX to the rusty can and your 240z as the bar of gold...

Senkyoshi,
I'll try to get off my soapbox early on this issue. One of the problems with the Internet is it gave a voice to all the drunk, anti-social personality and borderline personality disordered people. In the normal course of events you could walk away from these folks or just pimp slap them. In the real world it's called logical consequences. Now you have all these Play Station 2 warriors in addition to the above mentioned folks who can write anything they want to and, to some extent, be heard. I see these fools on the Z board all the time who sit in judgment of people's posts and call them derogatory names from the comfort and safety of their computer monitors knowing full well if they were in the presence of that person they would take a different route. Remember in grade school the kid who would wait to get to the end of the block and call you a name. Well, he grew up, missed some developmental milestones and failed to transition into adulthood. He's who you get to talk to when you place an ad like yours.
By the way, I think your ad was perfectly appropriate. What if somewhere there was a guy with a 300 2+2 who decided he wanted a 240 again? Whichever way he was referring to the rusty can or gold, he had no right to refer to you as stupid. I'll quit there. Good luck on your search.

gumbyZ13,
I have heard that 240zs can bring ina lot of money over there from a Japanese friend of mine (i speak Japanese). I wonder if there is anyway to sell one to a collector over there.
JML77280Z ,
I understand that. That is why I wrote him back to inform him of what he was missing and to educate him some about Zcars. I try not to stoop the level of others (but sometimes it is tempting and fun).
Thanks for the replies you guys. i am still not sure i want to give up my Z but if I was going to move on to any other kind of Z it would be a Z32. Those are favorite besides the first generation.

"pimp slap them" lol that's great!
On a side note I to think your offer was completely reasonable. You obviously got a response from someone with very little usable brain matter to work with.

I would trade my Z32 for the right S30 any day. Gorgeous cars, powerful and light. Not to mention you can put about anything under the sun in their engine bay.

I remember a sign I saw outside a "shoppe":
"We buy junk. We sell antiques."
Rusty but running.
Polish cell phone and two tubes of Aluma-seal.
And, now we are historic.

I do like 240Z's, but my fair trade for the 300ZX I was trying to sell was a 510 or 67.5 Roadster 2000 :) Prefered the 67.5 Roadster 2000.
Progress:
Z32 Had to sell for DD 06 Sentra :(
S30 one of these days I will get around to putting it all back together.

Senkyoshi,
I'm not to familiar with the importing regs over here. There is a shop down the street from my house that brings in american cars all the time. It's a low rider shop so they have a bunch of old impalas, caddys, and of course escalades. If you know someone that could do the leg work it might be worth researching. Prices on the older cars are starting to climb...

You're asking a very biased crowd. We're the types who, in the event of a fire, would get the Z out of the garage then go get the family.
1972 240z w/L28, tokico shocks and springs, and a 5 speed waiting. Also running high performance ultra mega blinker fluid, that's at least an extra 50hp to the wheels.
