I am thinking about doing a half bumper design on my 280z, using an early 260z bumper. See my post in the 70-83 tech for more info. I am using the astro van grill from the late 80ies (kudos to brian510) and want to fill in/ cover up the voids left by the bumper. I think Bama16 said that graham and shaver used to make a kit for this. Does any one have a picture they could post of that set-up or anything with a modified half bumper on a Z. Thank you so much.

I made a half/split bumper for my 71 out of Fiberglass. Wasn't very hard. I had originally planned on cutting the stock bumper and welding caps on the ends but figured I didn't want to mess it (the stock bumper) up so I went the FG route.
This was taken at the MSA show a few years ago 03 or 04 I think. I don't remember the gentlemen's name that owned the car, but it was sweet...

Datsun 40146,
That black 240Z was the picture I thought I had but could not find. Now that you have seen them I would be curious to hear your thoughts. What do you think? And again, thanks for the information in your original post on the grille.

The black Zs half bumper is amazing, I think that is the route I am going to go. Thanks SOO much for your help, that gave me direction and a visual idea of what I want to do.
JML- I like the black Z set up, however the astro van grill is a much tighter grill than that, it has many more ribs. If you wanted a grill like the one in the photo I experimented with several grills before I found brians car. I would use a billet grill for a 76 chevy truck. The one I tried was about the right size, it was alittle wide, and a little short by about one rung. So if you went that route you might want to fab on one more to the top to fill in the Z's huge hole. Thanks again gumby and JML you hav been very helpful.

The owner of the black Z is a past president of Dezert Z Association in Arizona by the name of Gary. Here is a pic of him and his wife and the car.
