Hi folks,
Fun day. My friend and I dropped a set of Z32 leather seats in his 73 240Z. Enjoy

How hard was it? You got any pics of what you did to the brakets? It looks like you've got a really close but usable clearance between the seat and both sides. Looks really good!

DMS,
They practically fell in. Yeah right!! Actually, they were not that hard to install. To be honest with you I was a little surprised. My friend Jim had a good plan on how to do these and we did it his way and it was quite easy. One of the things that made it easier was before we removed the brackets from the 73 seats we welded a cross piece that connected and stabilized the two brackets. Then, when we removed them from the 73 seats, they stayed in the exact position needed to mount them on the Z32 seats. From there it was just a matter of figuring out what needed to be cut or drilled to mount the old brackets to the new seats. Once they were mounted, we removed the welded on cross piece and installed the seats. Don't they look great!!! And they sit well too. You don't have your head crammed into the roof. And, we were able to keep all the seat adjustments. Good friends, good music, a damn fine lunch and a cool day to set aside to work on Zs. This was a good day.
We forgot to take pics of the process. We always forget to take pics of the process. We need to work on that.

Nice, those look great - I was thinking about trying a pair of 350Z seats in my car some day... but those Z32s look like a great fit, I'm sure I can get some much cheaper than any 350 seats.
Thanks for the post!

Hi....
For those who are interested, we installed 91 Z32 seats in my 73 240Z. I guess our learning curve was somewhat shortened by having done this nut roll with another pair in my 83ZX a couple months ago.
Transferred the 73 sliders to the Z32 seats. As John mentioned we tacked a bar between the rails in order to maintain their "attutude".
Following is how we approached the driver's seat: The slider mounting bolts from the 73 are 12.5 inches front to back and 13 inches wide. The Z32 seat mounting holes are 13.5 inches front to back and 14.25 inches wide. Therefore, we simply cut off the "vertical" flanges on the adjustment geared Z32 seat mounts so the 73 rails would lay flat and then drilled holes in those same flanges using the 73 dimensions. Had to use John's air chisel to remove the Z32 bolts so the new bolts would tighten. Rear holes in the Z32 flanges were drilled offset 5/8 inches toward the center on each side to allow for the narrower width of the Z rails. Front holes were drilled about an inch back from the original Z32 rail holes. These new holes accounted for the dimensional differences in the two sets of rails.
Passenger side was simpler, since it doesn't have the geared adjustments and the Z32 mounting points are stationary. We just cut two straps 14.25 inches long, then drilled and bolted them to the old mounting points across the width of the seat. Then drilled new holes in the strap to accomodate the Z mounting points.
Slammed them in, bolted them down and went to lunch!
Oh, and 300zxt, those stickers add 10 horsies each! They actually display my affiliations: the flag for retired military, our OK Z Car club (OKZCC) sticker, and my university--OU Sooners!
Hope I haven't confused any one who's trying to plow through this. It certainly entertained John and me for the day!

those look real goood i was trying to find those or something else to put in my 240z ended up going with rsx seats which are real nice shape too side impact air bags and heated. so how do they sit? when i installed the rsx seats i basically removed the complete tracks and sliders so they can sit nice, and low they were hitting the headliner was basically a PITA eded up mounting on to a aluminum plate that bolts to seat holes in floor the pics are in signature link dont want to hijack

Thanks for the comments, guys.
MafiaZ, I've got about three fingers width between the top of my head and the Z top. I'm six feet. They sit great and really improve the interior look of this ole girl. I had saved pics of the RSX seats in a 240. They really looked good, but got the Z32 seats from a club member who tangled with a semi (the semi sideswiped him).
The cloth Z32 seats we recently installed in my 83ZX do, however, lack for head room until the seat foam and my spine compress.
