Ok sorry this isnt about z's, but a friend of mine just got a spec and he is having issues on cold start. It sounds like its not getting fuel. He took it to the local Nissan dealership and was told it needed a fuel pump repair kit. When asked the mechanic stated it was a bunch of little plastic things.....
I was just curious if anyone knew what this guy was talking about..according to a friend that works @ Nissan the fuel issue is commen with those specs and they usually replace the fuel pump..while this guy is suggesting a fuel pump repair kit and couldnt explain what it was besides "plastic things".
If he doesn't go through the dealership we probably are going to test the pump and some other stuff this weekend so if anyone can shed some light on this for me I would greatly appreciate it....

ok dude, i'm a nissan tech and let me pass some help on to ya. those repair kits are basically supposed to keep the pump from bleeding down pressure. they aren't worth jack, after a few thousand miles we usually have to put a new pump in anyway. this is also a problem for the 1.8 sentras not just the 2.5. the 2.5 sentras along with the altimas also have another bulletin on cold start problems and it calls for a new starter and a fuel system cleaner. if it is the pump you shouldn't have to wait till the car completely cools down to have trouble, just long enough for the pump to bleed pressure off. how long does it roll over before it finally fires off? if the car has to go through "cold soak" then it may be the starter issue.

I drove it last night and it was having problems starting when the engine was hot also, so I'm guessing the pressure is bleeding down like ya said..I went to Nissan with my friend last night and the tech there said basically what you said besides the other bulletin..
Thanks for the info ill have to make sure it doesn't have to be cold so we can eliminate the starter issue..

no problem man, just remember that not all people that work at dealerships are trying to rob you because it seems that a lot of people on these forums believe that. i'll always be glad to help because i know a lot of people enjoy working on cars themselves like i do in my spare time.
