Q:
Here is the new direction I'm considering going in..... I will have to sell the Z to get seed money......but I think it will be worth it.

Edit:
I'm probably going to attend the PCA Charity Auto-X for a (maybe) last spin in the Z, I'll know more after that...

Whatever makes your driving enjoyable. I've gone drag racing way more than any other kind because lets face it, 15 dollars for entry fee for the drag track is less than 300-400 for a weekend of road racing. I'd gladly pay the 400, if I could.

dragracing...how exciting.
build a quick car and you realize that someone down the street from you has a quicker car. put everything you have into being the quickest car in town and then you get beat by the guy in the next town.
suddenly the car starts overheating on the way to the track, so you trailer it. parts break faster and money goes faster. and some new guy in town handed you a loss.
one day, you just get fed up and walk away. you are tired of trailering such an expensive POS and you just want to drive. and you will end up right back here.
If all were equal, none would be strong.

.....when I want to go for a spin I fire up the Sporty. Lots of smiles at 60 miles per gallon. The Z is a trailer queen, and mostly a garage queen the last couple of years.
Truthfully, I would like to keep the Z, but I can't have both. 10.5 racing is some of the most exciting local drag racing I've ever seen. The cars have no sponsors, just local Hot Rods butting heads, and I'm ate up with it. It is truly grass roots drag racing, heads up no break out. The "True Street" class is running upper 5's in the 1/8 mile, and that's the class I'm looking at running. Check out the rules/pics in the link, it's pretty cool stuff.

10.5 cars are some of the fastest of the fast. Its not cheap to build a fast and competitive 10.5 car especially if youre talking heads up.

I ran fastest street car in America for a couple years and its a helluva lot more fun that road racing thats for sure at least for me. I have my modded Z06 for road racing and 1/4 mile runs (does both great), the 240z for road racing and 1/4 mile runs (does both great) and my Pontiac SD-455 for my 1/4 mile racing (the same car i used for the fastest street car in Amerca series). building a 1/8 or 1/4 ground pounder is fun and will always be more fun to me than road racing.
you will have fun with the new hobby Ken!

On another note why not use the Z as a 10.5 car?

I've been to the drags. For the $20 I spent, I'd have rather stayed home. What a boring drawn-out yawn-fest.
Road-racing at ~$200/day is a much better deal as far as my time is concerned.
A:
You don't want the front wheels on the ground at the launch... 100% weight transfer is a good thing :-)

From the General Regulations:
4. Rules of the appropriate sanctioning body will be in effect NHRA and IHRA depending on the host track.
From Chassis:
4. All replacement parts must be in stock location
There are no IRS suspensions allowed in NHRA. I've never read IHRA rules so I can't say if they allow IRS. Texas Raceway is an NHRA track which is where I will be. Denton is NHRA, and I'm not sure about the track out in Terrell.

Oh yeah theres the other fun thing about drag racing in a class the damned rules. Id check that IRS rule though that means the new Cobras cant run along with Vettes. Just a thought though.
So are you running heads up classes or is it bracket racing?
Currently parting out 1990 300zx TT.
A:
It's heads up, no break out. I'm sure of the IRS rule in NHRA. The rules for True Street are pretty loose with the exception of carb/TB size and of course, rear tires. This last season not a single Big Block has won a race, the class it totally dominated by small block engines, which is right up my ally. The big motors just can't get any bite on the narrow M/T street tires.

Most of the Fast cobras have converted back to live axle for strenght and less frictional loss. The IRS on cobras is not a very well designed setup.
Ken, sounds awesome and while what Ballistic said is true, if we only focus on the negatives nothing will ever get done ya know. I mean someone could have came to work and did a better job than my hung over ass today, but i still came.
I think it would be cool if a guy down the street had a car faster or slower than mine. If your mature it makes for some friendly competition and possibly a good friendship.

I like drag racing, but that's a 10 second thrill, that's why you only pay 20 bucks a shot. You get hours of thrill in road racing which is why you pay more. It takes multiple skill sets to road race (handling, braking, acceleration, course lines, etc). Drag racing requires only a few skill sets; quick reaction, get traction, floor it, lol.
don't get me wrong i love drag racing and ground-pounders, but Z's were made for the curves not the 1/4. (yes i realize he's not using the Z)
