Q:
I need to stop working out, too many broken bolts..sigh. Fat old men or skinny little kids must be the only people who have success in working on cars.
Sorry if you dont find the sarcasm or humility in myself for posting this.

Guess I was just pissed when I put the halfshaft bolts back on and dealt with that misery of positioning my wrenches on them. After I got both sides on and all was fine in Metropolis, I remembered I forgot to actually torque my axle nuts on and peen them. Awesome! I suspect at least three more broken bolts tonight due to my failure to be a good mechanic and my resistance to care and comprehension that steel will actually break.
A:
sometimes "fat old" men are unbeleivably strong. it comes from working hard every day of your life. and guys who "work out " certainly dont have a corner on the market when it comes to breaking bolts .

Ive yet to meet a "fat old" man who could break bolts as well as I could. If there ever was a "who could break the most bolts and piss themselves off" contest I would surely take the gold. I would contribute further to this discussion, but I have a few more sets to knock out before I go and try to torque down some weak bolts.
A:
Fat old men used to be strong young men only now they have more knowledge & money. That's about all that changes. They think they're still 24 & will kick ass if need be. Good things in life: Older whiskey. younger women.....
Anyone can drive a new car.
A:
Not as good as I once was, but good enough once as Ive ever been?
A:
the worse thing about working out isnt breaking bolts, its the working in tight spaces with 19-20 inch arms. and the loss of flexibility means that the simple job will take longer to do.
If all were equal, none would be strong.

No doubt Ballistic, but I guess a fat dude would have much more to worry about with his belly all up in the way then an arm. My 24 inch guns have a hard time manuevering around when Im under the car, let alone some 50 inch waste lodging up in places, guess we all have our downsides tho.
A:
LOL, I tend to break a lot of bolts myself. You will get really mad if you ever try and work on a sports bike and you break car nuts and bolts. I would break car bolts every now and then. Start getting where I dont do it as much. Then start working on my sports bike, and twist of these aluminum bolt tops like silly puddy. Every thing on those bikes is made to be lighter. It can be maddening learning that.
A:
I'd like to see pictures of these 24 inch biceps you have, were you talking width or length of your arm? Because if you are talking diameter around the bicep, thats probably bullshit. 8 Time Mr Olympia Ronnie Coleman has 24 inch biceps....http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ronnie_Coleman#Current_stats

Plus, alot of the old/new stuff is not worth crap. I like the Z, but the quality of the Jap. metal never was much. And, the new Chinese replacement stuff is not too good either. The distributor of metric fasteners here has set up his own testing facliity because the parts he gets from China are so erratic in quality. I asked him if domestic prodution was avail. and he said "sure, for triple the cost."

" big guns" doesnt mean strength. i have known some guys with "normal " size arms that were unbeleivably strong. lifting weights will never build strong muscles like working hard at a manual labor job every day of your life. it amazes me when guys think that pumping iron will make them stronger or build up endurance like manual labor will.when i was younger and weighted 145 lbs. i was beating guys well over 200 at arm wrestling . some of these guys arms were twice the size of mine but they werent stronger.

when i was 18 and 170lbs i beat guys that weighed over 200, then one day a guy that worked out and weighed about 250 beat me bad. oh well, win some, loose some. and arm wrestling is more about technique than pure strength. as a mechanic yeah it builds strength, but going to a gym and moving some actual weight, over several reps, thats what will put meat on ya. just for the record, the two closest times i came to losing at armwresting were by smaller guys, one was a 150lb carpenter, the other a 160lb mechanic.

Yeah reps build bulk, but not necessarily strength.

24 in guns from tip of index finger to top of shoulder lol. Actually Im weak and use a 36 inch breaker bar on even the smallest bolts on the car.
A:
i remember a strength challenge contest on tv a few years back with athletes from many different sports competeing. the guy who won it was the smallest in size. he was a nascar driver. he beat some really big football players!

its all in how you train. Bill Kazmaier may have never looked like Arnold, but he outweighed him by nearly 100 lbs.
Franco Columbo didnt have Arnold's size, but Arnold never had Franco's strength.

you are incorrect.
weight training is like building a car. the majority of people that buy aftermarket parts do not buy parts to make their cars faster. the go fast parts usually cost more than what most can pay...so they prefer to look fast instead of be fast.
the majority of guys in the gym do not train for power...they train for the look. they prefer to look strong instead of be strong. the guys you know that go to the gym are the equivalent of the guys who go to PepBoys for car "mods".
this guy would be the equivalent to the Koenigsegg
looks like a bodybuilder, but is one of the strongest humans on the planet...in fact he has won the strongman title 3 times. he is smaller than his opponents, carries tremendous strength and endurance.
If all were equal, none would be strong.

I'm the total opposite of that creepy guy^^^. Skinny 20 year old and have yet to break a bolt! There are some advantages to being a twig!

That's just a hilariously huge body. I'm incredibly skinny, weight 150 pounds, 18 years old, and breaking bolts happens everytime I work on my car. I do not look threatening at all, my dad is the same way but he has done manual labor his whole life and I have done a fair share up until this point.

its funny, but it seems like half the guys that won the strongest man title in the last 12 yrs had the name Magnus or Magnuson(sp?) for a first or last name, LOL
so, when your kids tell you about the first grade kid that push the disabled schoolbus out the road, ask if the kid is named Magnus.
