I can barely fit in my car now. I could not understand how anyone over 5'6" could fit in that, but props to the styling. Kind of cool if it was feasable to actually drive comfortably.
A:

That's "boodlefoof";s car on hybridz. I think he's doing all kinds of fiberglass body modifications too.

Experienced choppers will lay back the windscreen to allow it to be reused. You lay back the posts, which helps the Cd and Frontal Area on an S30 quite a bit, the windshield is too upright anyway, the reason for it's terrible Cd anyway!
But like I said, most people lay back the windscreen to keep overall top to bottom length the same. If they do a 'straight chop' like on a pre-67 VW Microbus then the windshield needs to be shortened. Most take the glass opening and cut a sheetmetal template to fit, then lay it over the stock glass, and take to it with a sandblaster and black magic or other aluminum oxide or agressive medium. This will cut through the glass and laminate layers like a knife through butter, and is basically the only way to cut safety glass without shattering it. This gives you a shorter windshield for the opening. Then you simply cut the stock windshield gasket on the left and right sides and put it back together with BlackMax (cyanoacrylate weatherstrip adhesive---superglue for rubber like o-rings and etc...)
But as I said, you usually lay back the windshield to reuse it intact without alteration. The LAST thing you want to have to do is customaize EVERY windshield you put in the car---makes the insurance $$$ go way up! When you tell them the windshield is a standard glass piece, they keep the insurance rates lower as the windshield is the most commonly used glas part on the car.
The sides and back glass is easily altered as above, and since it's pretty much flat, you cna use Perspex or Lexan and get away with windows out of that on the sides easily as well.
The hatch glass is another matter, as if you want to keep the defroster you have to keep the hatch unaltered---so that can be done by laying the sides down, and moving the hatch up into the roof some more. That will keep the hatch mechanisim and dimensions unaltered. The roof needs to be legnthened about 6" when you chop it 4", so you end up just laying the hatch down till it touches the original roofline and call it quits there, and tack it in place.
But I digress....
Hope that clears up the windshield and glass question. It's not a big deal, you CAN do it at home wiht a Harbor-Freight Sand Blaster if you have the determination and common sense!

How can you say it looks sick (good)? It's totally in progress, so I'll reserve judgement until it's a lot closer to being finished.
Sure it looks like it will look slick once it's done but right now it's nothing more than a chopped up Z.

judging from the pic above, if it were my car, id go ahead and drop a stock engine in it and drive it around right now as it is...i think its dead sexy, even though its not finished...
sure when its done it will look better, but its allready 100 times better than a 350Z....the 350 should have looked something around what this looks like- a slooped version of the 240

yeah we all know how you don't even need a windshield!
I think it has potential, seen lots of drawings of a car like that and I thought the guy had actually built it. This looks like his car only unfinished.

A:

i dont like it. the z car design is good as is and to chop it just doesnt look right, however thats just my opinion.

100 times better than a 350Z have you lost your friggin mind.the 240z is by far my favorite Z but coming from some one who's owned both.i'd say your off your rocker BOY!chopping the top of an icon is a total discrace and deface of a legend.i'm not even a fan of the convertable 240's let alone this.find me a restored 240 with all the bells and whistles engine, wheels, paint, interior etc.then and only then would i consider it to be several times better than a 350Z.you can't compare new to classic.it's a like comparing apples to oranges.i admire your desire for the s30 and you are entitled to your opinion.but in all seriousness i hope the military relizes what they have coming in.jesus 100 better in the condition it's in right now.holy crap!

I like it. Looks like it is up to high (suspension or lack of weight to make it sit lower), but the car looks fast just sitting there. Im sure once it is all done its going to be a real eye catcher.
A:

old old old old old old
he's made much progress since that pic was taken.
I can't remember his name. a quick search on HYBRIDZ for "chop top z" will find him.

If I recall correctly, bubbles is very skilled at driving without a windshield.
And from reading...the S30s roof was originally supposed to be something like an inch and a half lower than it ended up being...but the prospect of success in the generally taller American market was sure to change that.
Should look good when done though.

Before the RB, the previous engine in the widebody was an Turbo Tom's L28 putting out a bit over 500 at the wheels. That Z is simply orgasmic.

Wow, he has put a lot of work into that car.
No update in over a year, I wonder how it's coming.
My favorite part: He knocked down walls to his house, removed his sauna, and parked the Porsche inside. Now that is a true car guy.
