engine ID?

Q:

i searhed but could not find an answer so i ask.my parts car -1980 280zx 2+2 intake is stamped P-82, my 1980 280zx coupe is stamped P-71. what is the meaning of each stamp and is one better than the other? any other info on the difference would be appreciated. thanks in advance.

Well obviously the P-82 has no EGR valve, thus it's a California designed intake and the other is a Federal version. Some people prefer the P-82 OR the N-42 because they have no EGR valves and it gives the engine a cleaner look. I really don't know if there is any performance to be had over one or the other.

they all still have the same exact runners so no performance gain but if you are looking to get rid of EGR you have the right manifold.

thanks guys that clears it up for me. i searched here and in my fsm and my haynes book and nothing said which was which. it said that there were cali. and federal models but it didnt tell which intake was which.
however when all other sources fail it seems that someone here always has the correct info so -THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!!!
