i started taking the fuel rail and other stuff off my 1980 280zx 2+2 parts car and when i compared the intake- exhaust manifold to my 1980 zx coupe i noticed some major differences in the intake- exhaust manifold design. both cars are non turbo. the coupe has a tab on the back of it that some sort of smog ( i think) stuff with vaccumn hoses . the 2+2 doesnt have any of this - not even the tab (platform?) . the tab is part of the manifold - it is molded right into it.
my question is shouldnt both of these cars have the same design manifold? they were manufactured 2 months apart.
does this mean that one is probably not the original motor?
if so is there a serial number stamped on the motors that will tell me which is which? i have noticed other differences but i figured that a po had taken smog stuff off but this tab isnt something that comes off, it is part of the manifold body.

Not to mention, it's hard telling unless you've been the owner of the car it's entire life, what the previous owner (s) had done to it until you got your grubby little hands on it.

thanks for the info - i will check the casting number in the daylight first thing tomorrow. i have to admit it left me scratching my head when i realized they looked different.
