Saw another 280zx on freeway...

...so I pulled up next to it and held it's speed, I'm thinking this is soo cool, two Z's driving side by side. I look over to see if the driver noticed (which I'm sure he has)....
...AND IT'S AN ELDERLY WOMAN!!! LOL. I thought it was hilarious. I'm thinking, yeah, all the cool people drive Z's, this must be another fellow Z'er, yeah, and whaddaya know? The lady looked like my grandma! I think I might have scared her, because she slowed down (we were only going 60mph) and took the next exit!! Ooops! Sorry for the misunderstanding!

I've had a few of those with Z32's pulling up next to me. I'm always pleased when they recognize my car as a Z (280z), shows they know something about the heritage of the car they're driving.

With age comes wisdom. Better than some kid that doesn't even know that they made Zs before his.

Funny, because when i got my 1971 240Z running,i took it out on the first drive, and almost immediately had a black 280Z driving beside me,so we tried to match each other's speed and drove down and up a long hill to the nearest stoplight, and when we both stopped at the light ,side by side to each other,in the other car was indeed an older gentelman, who i later found out was Lenny, our club's president. When you take your Z out for a drive for the first time ,and the first Z you see belongs to a Z-club president,YOU KNOW IT'S A GOOD SIGN,SORTA LIKE,"YOU'VE MADE THE RIGHT DECISION"TYPE FEELING

When I'm out and about in my Z, I try to pull up to every Z I see. I find the 1st 2nd and 3rd gens know what about the heritage, but a lot of the ones driving the 350's don't even look over or recognize a 1st gen. I do have some friends that have the 350's that always ask me about the 240 and wanna see the progress. It's like going back in time for them. I remember when...! I remember this...!

The reason you see older guys driving them is because they are the ones with enough money to either buy a 350 or to restore the older ones. Check out the drivers of new vettes, BMW Z cars etc.

Don't be talking about my momma. heheheh She was 60 when she bought a brand new '79 ZX 5speed from Dixie Nissan. The bag boys' jaws would drop at the grocery stores when they rolled out her cart. She drove it ten trouble free years. Maybe because I was the only one that touched it.

....need to remember that you didn't invent the Z car. We "elders" were around when the first 240s stormed this country's shores and still remember what a fun, reasonably priced, fun (did I already say that?) car they were/are!
I wave at ALL Zs, especially the ones driven by young lovelies. You're right, many of the 350 drivers haven't figured out WTF yet.
Love of a car is NOT age dependent. Picked up my fifth grade granddaughter from school today in the ZX. (She'd rather ride in the 240, but I don't like to drive it in the school traffic--too many soccer moms in SUVs yakking on their cells.) One of her male classmates hollered "nice car!" at me. So, young or old, love of the Z is ageless!
Geez, next you'll be implying that "elders" no longer have a sex life!
Good thread!

I totally agree. I get compliments all the time from people about my car.
My favorite conversation always goes like this:
Stranger: "Hey, what kind of car is that?"
Me: "It's a 1990 Nissan 300zx"
Stranger: "Sorry, I thought you said 1990"
Me: "Yep, that's what I said"
Stranger: "Wow, nice car"
Gotta love the very forward design of the Z32.
People who don't know any better always think it's a lot newer than it is.
That being said, I would LOVE to own a clean 240 some day.
