Ok so my buddy mentioned in a previous post bought the RTV motor. We tore it down to the block today... CAN YOU SPELL D,O,N,E! The pistons were moving all over the place. The kicker is that we are looking at a 5.0L block with stock everything inside. Nothing but a really cool set of M/T valve covers, chrome timing cover, and a good deglazing. So after inspecting the bores we came to the conclution that the stock original rings are F%^K'd and so are those freshly deglazed walls.
I'm sorry, but I have been laughing so hard today at his misfortune, I think karma is going to come get me soon.
They used Clevit 77 bearings on it. They are toast as well. The crank is scored up somthing bad. The bears weren't even spun! Must have been dirty. Several cylinder walls have been badly damaged to the point of a .010" over bore at least.
So my best guess is the following:
Shop, that has since folded up and disappeared, decided to pull a 350(5.7L) engine out of customer's vehicle. They go to PNP and get another SB chevy from the yard. They clean it up, paint it, and hone the cylinders out. It gets thrown back together and slightly dressed up. It looks all purty! Sounbds good with a flow on the back to. Customer gets car back with a so called 5.7L motor that has been hopped up a bit.(I know this is hilarious isn't it!)
So at least my buddy got it in writing that the motor was a freshly built running engine. So he is going back to the PO to get his money back.
So at this point he is thinking about a 383 kit with a 4.1.." bore job.
I thought I'd share and let you guess get a kick out of this.
BTW I was orignally mad about the RTV and the shotty shop work, but nothing can really be done at this point. So we all had a laugh about it and started talking about how cool a 383 will be...

That is funny as hell. Thank God he got it in writing so he can get his money back. How much did he pay for the 305 dud.

Example of you get what you pay for I guess. For that price they would be loosing money on a motor if they really rebuilt it.
