Hi folks,
I need some help to find one of these trim rings NEW. I need a new one. This is the ring that goes around (behind) the gas cap. Mine is rotting along the edge and I keep losing points in car shows because of it. Thanks for any info you could provide.

Odd piece. I checked everything I can think of, but can't find it. Can you pull it and maybe sand it with some micro grit hobby sand paper the repaint?

I thought Black Dragon(VB) has ZX trim pieces. If not, head to a hobby shop for plastic paint (small spray can of gloss black).

I sanded mine with 400 and sprayed a couple coats of krylon fusion. Looks pretty decent and hasn't been affected by gasoline yet.

no you won"t!.....the answer to your question is as follows....the item your looking for is call a "case-gas-filter" ,the part number is 78141-P7101 and it lists for $ 13.90 and is STILL available at any nissan dealership. i feel for you...i replaced mine for the exact same reason! iam the proud owner of a brown metalic brown 1982 280zx 2+2. just won my 14th first place car show trophy! looks like your good to go! best of luck to you at your next show! rjc

If this is for your 83ZXT, then gt40man is wrong on part number.
For the 280ZX this part is called a "cover-gas" and the part number is 17225-P7100.
I know this because I tried to order one on July 9, 2001 for my 1983 280ZX. The parts man at Courtesy Nissan (Vince), told me that the part was no longer available for Nissan, but a Nissan dealership may still have one on their shelf. He then offered to search other Nissan dealerships for me, but if he did find one, I could not get the normal 20% discount. He called me 2 days later and told me that he had found one at Desert Nissan in Las Vagas, NV and that they would ship it to me directly.

Thanks for the info. That just kills me as I just spent two years in Las Vehas and drove past that dealership ten times a day. Oh well the search continues.

bruce 83.....sorry your wrong and the parts man at courtesy nissan is DEAD WRONG! the part,a "case-gas-filter (#78141-p7101) is plastic and is still available and IS the correct part JML772802 is looking for.the part your referring to #17225-p7100 is call a cover-gas filler case and is metal and lays beneath the "case gas-filter". i know, because i bought one at nissan. these part #'s where taken from nissans 280zx genuine parts catalog, dec. 1984 final issue (PUB. No. C-0300U)...this is the holy grail on every single part that was on 280zx model S130 series. this is THEE BOOK THAT THEY USED AT NISSAN! struck gold on ebay....payed $107.21...would've payed twice that much! Well gt40man, you got RIPPED OFF.
I have the Nissan Parts program FAST, which until 2 years ago was THE parts program used by the parts departments of ALL Nissan dealerships. This program that I have covers ALL Datsun/Nissan models made from 1964 to 2003 (not just the 280ZX) and I got mine for FREE.
Per this parts program, part #17221-P7100 is called a "Packing-Filler neck" and it is the round steel plate that holds the filler tube to the body.
The Plastic part that covers the steel plate is #17225-P7100.

thanks for correcting my mistake bruce83! i mistakingly type the part #'s wrong...they should have been reversed....i still think my 1 1/2" 280zx pasrts catalog is still the ultimate source for part diagrams and part #'s. sorry JML772802 for any inconvience to you on my part# mix-up. rjc

Not a problem, really. And for what it is worth, I think the world of people who apologize. But no big deal. So, I called Courtesy and spoke with Butch who is trying to locate one for me. He seemed to have a firm grasp as to the part I wanted and agreed to do what he could to locate one. Butch is cool.
Bruce83 and gt40man, you are both a couple of BIG DOGS when it comes to Zs and I'd follow your advice and value your opinion any day. Although, I must admit, it would be fun to sit down at a table with the two of you and get an argument started.
All kidding aside thanks for the info. I'll keep you posted on Butch's progress. It sure would be nice to pick up one of those puppies new.
