Hello, i got one of those brocheres from chevrolet about there commercial trucks you can buy for like businesses. In those brocheres the truck engines puzzle me. Some of the statistics for those truck engines are, say 184 horspower with 348 pounds of torque. How do they tweak the engines like that, what makes them torque monsters with such low horsepower?

Just look at the popular Rock Crawlers. Alot of those are tiny 4 bangers with monster torque and low horsepower.

Horsepower is calculated from torque and the RPM over which that torque is applied. A lot of torque applied in the low RPMs results in a low HP number. Conversely, high HP/low torque engines usually develop their peak torque at astronomical RPMs ala the S2000.

my Kenworth W900L had 600 HP and 2500 ft lbs. in normal driving, the engine would operate between 500-1800 rpm.

Their timming is usually really retarded too. So it revs slow, but strongly. Like a tractor motor.

Nope, long stroke. Torque = force x distance.
