BMW 240Z anyone?

General Chat

Q:

Nissan should somehow gain access to the new Z4 design from BMW and make it the new 240.... too much similarity.

Cool pic, though.

It should be the 240Z body with the BMW engine. I believe the engine is rated at 330 HP.
This whole world smells bad, I'd buy another if I had
back what I paid for another mother@#$%@# in a motorcade

That's kinda weak for $30,000 - $40,000 USD if you ask me...

To each his own, remember?
After all, not everyone loves the look of the Z31 either...
If I had to choose a newer BMW I would take this:

The M I believe is pricier than that! $30 to $40K...try a start price of $49,300 (The M has the 300 hp engine)
Stock 3.0i (entry level) is rated at 215 hp, according to the BMW website, and starts at $35,600. Maybe you meant this model? The model pictured is the Z4 M Coupe
Previously owned: 2005 Z Enthusiast, Super Black, 6 spd.
Currently lease: 2006 Pathfinder S, Silver, Auto

Junkyard280Z, that one you posted is much nicer in my opinion! Although you're right that it's each to their own but there's something about the lines of the Z4 that bugs me personally. It's like they've taken a plain clay scale model of the basic shape and then just gouged big grooves in it along the side and called it a day lol The design elements look like an after-thought to me...

"too much similarity"
Other than 4 wheels, 2 doors, and a driver side rear mounted antenna, I don't see anything that reminds me of a 240Z. It's too integrated, too streamlined, and too complicated to be a 240Z.
But we all need to remember that the original 240Z was not developed in a vacuum either and copied from other designers and trends of the day.
A:

Similarities are lightweight coupe, short deck, long nose, straight six with plenty of grunt. Classic sports car formula. I don't care how it looks, that car will be a blast to drive.

I saw one in SF the other day...I thought they weren't out yet? The 3.0 is good for 255 HP and the 3.2 M is good for 330. Wonder if they will go V8 turbo next year like the M3?

Yeah, I'll agree with you there. It's like they wanted the lines of the car to be broken up and angular, but to some it is probably a beautiful design.

I got a better one, the TVR Sagaris...
It has some wierd lines, vents and panels, but it's still pure secks.

Datto/300,
You missed my point. I did mention the wierd lines, which bug me as well. I don't like the wierd spoiler thing. The roof vent is stupid. The vents on the hood/wheel wells are totally unnecessary, as are the huge vents in the middle of the hood, and the vents under the headlights look tacky. Not to mention the exhaust cowling. WTF is up with that. It is way too busy for a Z car, but that can be remedied.
It's the basic shape of the car is what makes it a good candidate.
The Z4 looks like a brother and sister mako shark got together and had a retarded baby. The Z8 is sex but it's a roadster, not a coupe.

Sagaris has a 380 HP I-6...not to mention it weighs somewhere between 2400 and 2500 lbs. I bet the Z4 isn't that light.

Hahahaha...that was awesome.
I think all car companies should stop with the retro trend.
I don't want to see a bunch of remade cars from the seventies.
I want to continue to see new designs and innovations.
