you will still gain - its all in the compression ratio - slap the head on there get a nice cam and a good ignition and you should have a nice littel motor

Just wait and save and do it all at once. It would be worth your money to do it right the first time around.
1972 240z w/L28, tokico shocks and springs, and a 5 speed waiting. Also running high performance ultra mega blinker fluid, that's at least an extra 50hp to the wheels.
1987 Toyota Supra Turbo 5-speed. Belongs to me until my friend get's back from Iraq.

Chiquete, you can get the L28 engine at your local jy for 100 -- 200. and get the maxima head (if you got one then cool). If there are both engines (maxima and Z) and you want the motor, you can spend extra time pulling the head off both (check the cylinder walls) and then "pop" the maxima head on the Z block and bolt it up and same yourself 50-90 bucks on not paying for extra cylinder head
The N47 Z cam is different then the MN47 cam (maxima cam is more economy style)

it will raise a compression, just a bit so don't expect much on the power increase, spend some money porting, polishing, etc
and it will pay off

Good, but you are missing the whole point, get the L28 motor, it is extra cost but it will pay off tremendously, especially with all the goodies like cam, headers, etc. IT will worth the extra money and time
