Window won't roll up! '93 Thunderbird

Q:

Hi guys,
I pretty sure that my driver's side window motor is blown. I tried to buzz my window down , it made a loud grinding sound, then stopped. It won't go up or down. I check the fuses and they are fine.
My question is: Is there any way that I can get my window back up without the window motor working (Get it back up manually)? What's the best way to do this?
Thanks in advance!

When my window regulator got all twisted up in the door in my '76 I just pushed the window up and had to keep doing that because it would obviously slide down.

Remove the inner door panel and see if you can muscle it up and then add small Vise Grips to hold it. You may have to jump 12 volts to the window motor. Norm K

I fixed a Cadillac window with a piece of wood cut to length to hold up a broken window. It was a temp fix until tomorrow when I replace the regulator but it worked. You could use car-part.com and find a used regulator also. Paul

What it boils down to is there are several different things that could be wrong. The only way to fix this is take it apart and find out what is wrong.

Can't you just get your Dad, Lee, to fix it? Geez, he's run like three car companies hasn't he?

Ford power windows are notorious for crapping out. It may not actually be the motor. They use three small nylon dowels in the gear box to actually drive the worm gear that meets the regulator mechanism. They tend to break up over time. You are left with many, many small pieces of grease covered nylon in the gear box above the motor, and a non-working window. Luckily, most parts stores sell a dowel kit for a few dollars so you can replace them and get your window back. Try to listen if the motor is running when you hit the switch. If it runs, its probably the dowels.
