Q:
It may be my imagination, but it seems like every time I need something for my '93 Mazda truck, and it's a dealer part, it is absurdly expensive. When I need parts for the family Honda or even have to go to Nissan for a Z part, yes, it's more expensive than aftermarket, but not THAT bad. Even the Ford junk for the daughter's Taurus and wife's F250 ain't THAT bad.
So I nominate Mazda for the most unnecessarily expensive parts of any dealer.
Oh, and thank the Lord for junkyards.

They probably laugh and think that if you can't go and get the Ford part then you deserve to pay more for the same part with a Mazda part number ;P. Actually it's probably because they sold so few Mazda trucks as of late that there is a limited number of the actual parts that are different on the Mazda B-series as opposed to the Ranger. Where else are you going to get repair parts on a low production vehicle that there is no generic market for? I would speculate that the reason for the high prices is something like that. It would be interesting to see the price list of parts for a Ranger and a B-series and look at the descrepency in price between shared parts and Mazda only parts for the two trucks.

I know the new Ranger/B-trucks are only different in the trim and badging. NOt sure this was the case in '93, as I don't have a convenient '93 ranger around to look under the hood. But will do that next time at JY. Maybe I've been barking up the wrong tree (going to the wrong dealer) for parts all this time. LOL.

The older rangers are basicly the same as the newer rangers under the hood. Ford has been using the same basic design since the ranger came out, they just keep moderenizing it. The older B-series mazda trucks were no way related to the Rangers.
Want some insane prices? Go price 18inch aluminum wheel for a newer Nissan car, replaced one on a Murano one day at work it was over $600.

Hmm, my only guess would be that import parts tend to run higher but last longer than domestic parts granted that's not always the case.

My Haynes manual for my Ford Ranger states that it also includes the Mazda pickups.
Oh, and you think those Murano rims are expensive, try pricing rims for an '02 Harley Davidson F-150. $1300 per rim!!! Waaaahh!!!!

Ya think cars are bad, try the farm equipment market. 50.00 bucks for a rocker switch to turn the head lights on. I bought a 5.00 dollar toggle switch and said screw the OEM look.

Those wheels are special though, these were regular run of the mill murano wheels.
