Prologue: I just made up my mind to look for a Z32 and sell off all my 280ZX stuff last night.
Flash forward to today: I took the day off to piddle around in the shop and ran to town in the ZX. 2nd stoplight I hit, a guy in a Mazda pickup pulls up beside me looking like he was tickled to death. "What year Z is that? It's gonna be awesome when you finish it up!! I loved those cars...." Etc, etc. Light turns green and we go our separate ways.
Thanks for reminding me why I wanted this car in the first place, but really why today? I am still getting rid of a BUNCH of stuff, though, so I can at least paint the 280. Red 83 turbo interior, 81 turbo motor and tranny, 81 snowflake wheels, and who knows what else are on the block soon. Too much stuff and too little time to do all my side projects these days.
1983 280ZX N/A: 98% rust free, 118,000 actual miles.
1982 280ZX Turbo. $250 Parts car that was better than the rustbucket.
1983 280ZX Turbo. Hopeless rust case. The more I fixed, the more I found.

Flash forward to next year: Regret on selling your cars increases as your new Z32 looses one turbo and you realize the entire engine has to be pulled just to replace it. Bruises emerge as you kick yourself repetedly for selling your simple L28 powered Z cars last year... LOL.

heaved a huge sigh of relief. Trust me....the TT theory of life (If it has tires or tits it WILL cost you dearly) holds true particularly when a Z32 is involved. The Z32 electrical system can rival the space shuttle in complexity. The engine is packed in under the hood tighter than Dolly Partons boobs in a wetsuit. The under hood temps rival that of the surface of the sun, cooking the aforementioned electrical harnesses to a fine brittle state. You have to remove at least one major component of the engine in order to fix anything. Its always a good idea to have at least one quart of your blood in storage at a local blood bank when ever you work on the Z32. The least expensive part on the ole Z32 can at times require a loan application. So all in all you may have just dodged a bullet. But DAMN I love that car.
