Q:
Why didn't the chickens cross the road?
Because they fell off.
Almost everyday in Houston, especially I-10 interchanges on the East Side some idiot driver jackknifes, gets stuck under overpass or somehow loses load or big rig on the freeway.
The other day a large box truck (little smaller than 18 wheel) lost it big time on an overhead (40-50 foot drop) overhead pass -
loaded with frozen chickens. (free BBQ for clean-up crew)
Oh the poultry - the poultry! (remember the Hindenburg?)

I feel your pain erzelda.
I know exactly where you are talking about as well. Believe it or not, the area I live in in austin now has more annoying traffic than Houston.
I worked at I-10 and beltway on the westside last summer, I came from 1960 and I45 and rode my motorcycle all the way there and back 6 days a week. Not pleasurable in leather clothes.

I live in Ma. on the South Shore and commute to Boston every work day. I've seen almost anything you can think of for break downs or accidents. Lots of wonderful traffic to deal with most days. All it takes a a little rain, fog or something to mess things up. Haven't had any snow around here yet this Fall/Winter but I'm sure when it comes everybody will forget how to drive in snow (even though they have lived here their whole lives!). Just this morning I saw a small box truck that broke an axle or something as his duel set of rear tires were next to the truck with the axle sticking out! Can somebody invent one of those "beam me up Scotty" machines soon!!!!
Best of luck....

Austin freaking blows - I-35 and Mo-Pac suck. Oh, and god forbid a drop of rain should hit their windshield...it becomes total chaos.
But, I've never been to L.A., N.Y., or Chicago, and I'd be willing to bet those cities are a hell of a lot worse than Austin.

I've been to L.A. and Chicago.
Chicago isn't a fair comparison because everyone there is as mad as hell from being shot/mugged not to mention the ice/snow/fog.
L.A. is worse but at least the highways are crammed with nice cars and it's usually not too hot. The weather isn't bizzarre so no fog/snow wrecks.
Austin just has rediculous construction on highways built for 1/3 its population. Where I live is probably the worst, Riverside and I-35. On friday there is traffic from 6:30am to 7pm. I'm talking bumper TO bumper, all day except around 10am. All the hippies here just drive around on their days off, which is 3 days a week apparently.

I-10 is an Interstate. Chances are good that local drivers are the ones CAUSING the Interstate driven big trucks to crash when they come through your town. Houston drivers cut in if there is 1/4 car length to do so which is not something a big rig driver can deal with...

the answer lies not within the question but rather within the answer itself!

I think you have something there Hybrid.
I've been taking the bus to work a lot this passed year and I see idiots pull right in front from the second lane to make a right turn - acroos and infront of a bus just starting to move.
I don't see how we haven't had collisions there.
Our freeways are so crowded and I know drivers are mad (as in crazy too).
The ones that really get me - you're trying to get on the freeway and accelerate to get out of the way - idiot behind speeds passed you to get infront and exit in the next 10 seconds.
All Mr. Fool had to do was let off on the gas pedal let you get on the freeway and move to the next lane. He/It would just coast on down the exit ramp.

I believe it's like that everywhere but there does seem to be a greater concentration of bad drivers here in Houston. Every day at least one driver passes to pulls in front of me just to make a right hand turn 100 feet down the road. And the "safe braking distance" we were taught to keep is considered by many drivers as a perfect opportunity to get in front of you.

Are the roads over crowded in TX? Maybe the new super highway will help?
"By now many Texans have heard about the proposed “NAFTA Superhighway,” which is also referred to as the trans-Texas corridor.
Do you guys like this idea?

The trans-Texas corridor is the stupidest thing yet.
Texans pay taxes for better roads and it's getting diverted to that boondogle instead! WHY a superhighway to Mexico? Drugs and Immigrants need it even eaisier to travel into the interior of the USA?
A:
Heard a lot about this a few years back but not a peep until recently. I'll pass on the political and cultural dynamics and just say that it pisses me off because it is unnecessay and the real purpose is for the men pulling the strings to make bank and the palms of crooked politicians being greased is what is allowing it to proceed. A lot of streets and highways currently in heavy use could be repaired/improved with a fraction of this money. And we have perfectly good ports already so I don't buy the idea of "transporting cargo from Mexican ports by truck benefiting the US" rationale. I don't know about the rest of the state blue 2+2, but Houston, Austin, and the D/FW area traffic is very congested.
