I need a winter car so i can keep my Z safe away from salt. I ran across a 88 T-Bird turbo. It is in great shape, the body is in great shape. It has a 5 speed and the 2.3 turbo motor. It had a new Jasper motor and turbo installed 80,000 ago. He is asking 1250 for it. Are these cars relatively reliable? How are those 2.3 turbos? Yea i know it is ugly.

I'd say buy it if it's about a grand and no more. That seems a bit steep to me,but then again I AM CHEAP AS HELL,So...

i would probably throw A grand at them. I just need something to get through the winter... and something that is so slow like a 80 horse escort that is dangerous. The 2.3 turbos put out 190 horses and 200 pounds of tourque. That is not to shabby

However, they are great cars and well built. Ford made some good **** back in 88.

"I can tell ya now that they SUCK in the snow and ice! "
What can a NC Boy tell anybody about snow and ice?
You guys call school over a dusting!
Us Yankees can drive in stuff that'd make you Southern Boys call home fer Moma!
It ain't th' car, son! It's th' driver!
LOL
Then again, everybody said two things about Corvairs and VW Beetles: "They were really good in the snow"
having a smooth bottom and rearward weight bias allowed the front end to plane up on the new snow while the backend dug down for traction, and the tires up front steered like rudders...
That was only applicable when the overnight snowfall was better than 24".... Pertty much every night between December and the end of Febuary...
Oh, and BTW, for T-Bird Turbos---lifespan on the turbos seems to be 75-80K religiously as people heatsoak them routinely! I'd take the intake free and check the axial and radial throw on the turbo...just to be sure!

The 2.3s are great engines, and they love boost. I'm going to be turbocharging my 2.3 Ranger in the next few months, and after researching this for quite a while, I feel confident about it being reliable. Your engine comes with forged pistons from the factory, so that's a plus. I've seen these engines go literally hundreds of thousands of miles (n/a) without any major problems, so I would say as long as it's been taken care of (decently, anyways) it would be a good buy. Plus, it's only a grand - not like your breaking the bank here.
Oh yeah, if you end up buying the car and then parting it out later on, I call first dibs on the tranny!

Hey now Cali boy transplant Tony....we get quite a bit of ICE here! One Feb in 1998 we had ICE on the roads for 2 weeks!!
BTW, I have no problem driving the Z in the snow or ice. I've driven in 8" snow storms and gotten home with no problems in the Z ,but the Tbird just SUCKS on any slippery stuff!

T/C T-birds do suck in the snow, I know because my friend has two of them. He loves his, he has a 3inch open down pipe, a ranger roller cam, and a boost controller on his. I think he's running 18psi, runs pretty strong will spin both rear tires all the way through third gear.

Bad snow car, might as well get a mustang! 2.3 turbo motor is good, it is fairly easy to get over 400 hp out of one. I've seen one in a 240 put down 37X and it is very streetable, probably one of the best handling Z's I've been in also.
Of course with the right tires pretty much anything will work.

I am going to drive it tonight... From your opinions, which are generally biased to Nissan, it seems like a good car. I'll tell you guys how it goes.

It can be a good car, I just don't think it's the best option for a snow car if you get much at all. Those cars love to roast the tires - on warm dry pavement.

I dont care if it spins tires yo. I said winter car, not snow car. I drove a ship of a Lincoln last winter with rear wheel drive, no heat(had to drive with the windows down all winter so it wouldnt fog up). I Love getting a little squirley it the rear.
