Q:
The engine in my s12 bent a valve so I am replacing it with this what do you think?
on a side note if anyone has a use for a vg30e engine with a bent valve( the entire motor was rebuilt and only had about 2000km's on it before it bent a valve, shops fault not mine) send me an email.

That looks like a Pathfinder manifold, is that's a stock Pathfinder engine? You're going to need to change a few things internally if so...

it looks liek one but it isnt it just showed up weird.
yes it is a pathfinder engine what am I going to need to change internally? I was under the impression that the blocks are pretty much identical and that it should more or less swap right in. I am aware that the manifold will not fit under the hood but I dont see any other problems.

It greatly depends on if it's the VG33 or VG30, do you know?

So hows the manifold to hood clearence on the S12? I know on the Z31 you have to moddify the hood to get the truck manifold to fit.

the hood will need to be modified either raised with washers or a hole cut. I kind of like the idea of have an intake manifold with a big NISSAN stamped on it sticking out of the hood haha but ill probably cover it with a cowl or scoop.

Hood fitment is the least of your worries being that it's a VG33, the pathy manifold can be machined to fit by the way.
You have make a choice, turn it into a Z engine or leave it all as is and have a truck engine with high torque but low revving (bad idea). You'd want to hold onto your VG30 motor though that's for damn sure.
There's alot of differences, from some quick searching I found the following differences...

1) the heads on the stock vg33 will not work for a sports car. You will need to have proper cams put in.
2) the crank is not the same. The end of the crankshaft, where the pulley bolts, is different. You will need to remove use a crankshaft from a vg30 and have the block modified slightly to accept it, or have the vg33 crank modified to accept the 300zx pulley.
3) you will need an oil pan from a vg30 that was originally from a 300zx.
4) You may need to relocate a few other things, depending on what vehicle your 3.3L block came from. these may include the oil dipstick, oil filter, etc.
5) you will need to get all of the accessory mounts for the vg30 engine accessories (power steering, alternator)
6) you will need to have a specially programmed ECU with the proper maps for a sports car, or get a stand alone system like SDS.
Other than that, the physical block itself will bolt right up to the bell housing and the motor mounts are in the same location. If you are nuts like me, or just want to make things difficult for yourself, then go with the VG33. Otherwise, its probably much easier and safer just to stick with the VG30.
And that's probably only half of it, from memory the pistons are different, the water passages are different and on and on. I'm sure there's more differences aswell, you have a big job ahead of you to say the least if you want to do it right.

why cant I just use the pulley thats already on the crankshaft?
I do have a VG30 I can take parts from if needed. I knew about the oilpan but I have never heard about the crankshaft before.

Couldn't tell ya mate, sorry... Most sources I've read say that the benefits of a VG33 vs the hassles of making the complete swap aren't worth it, therefore not alot of people bother doing it but some do so dont let it discourage you it's just not going to be anywhere near as easy as you had hoped.
Do some searching in the 84-89 Tech section, aswell as over at hybridz.org/300zxclub.com and the other Z forums...

after reading that list actually none of those things really seem to pose any major problems. I have a vg30E to pick parts from and my engine bay is pretty bare so I might have some luck.

Yeah being that you already have a spare engine there, you should have everything you'll need right there just dont go selling it lol
