Measuring the stroke of a crankshaft [MOVED]

General Chat

Q:

I have a crankshaft attached to a block, how can I measure it's stoke without removing it?
Thanks.
A:

What crank is it or what is it from? It's either going to be 73.3mm or 79mm. Unless you have a diesel crank which is 83mm.
240Z-73.3 stroke
260Z/280Z/ZX 79mm stroke
Maxima diesel 83mm stroke

Sorry I had meant to post this question in CAR TALK, as the crank is not for a Z.
Just wondered how the stroke is measured of any crank.
A:

Measure the distance at TDC and subtract it from the distance at BDC. use the top of the block as your measuring point, and be precise on your measurement. If you have a rod still attached to the crank, that makes it a bit easier, or better yet if you have a piston still in the bore, then just measure how far down it goes from TDC.

Thank you very much.

Why can't you just search the net for your car's stroke. There is tons of info like that all over the place.
