Now that was a nice compliment

My dad and his best friend came over today for his friends 50th birthday. They are going to his surprise party and wanted to kill time and check out the 240. My dad's friend has a 1993 Carrera and an M3. I let them take the car out. They took off for around 15-20 minutes and came back with my dad's friend driving. He gets out of the car with the biggest schoolboy grin on his face and says, "That is one helluva fun car!, you gotta get that thing on a track." He wants to bring over his Porsche and trade cars for a day and go head to the mountains by my house. He thinks that the Z could keep up with the Porsche no problem. I didn't think he would like it that much being a Porsche and a BMW owner.

I was a diehard German Auto Freak till the day I drove the Z for the first time. Why spend $13K, when you can get the same performance package for $3K?
Sold Me!
We watched a club film at our meeting Thursday Night that showed a Z that started in last place during a race (due to a miscue by his crewchief), run through like 44 competitors (including several 911-Based Vehicles) to eventually win the race heat.
Pretty interesting to watch a 2.8L Z run through and past 3.1L Z's, and much more expensive machinery in the same class!

Finally, someone that respects another country's cars.
A true car guy is one that respects all cars until one gives him reason not to be respected. The majority does the opposite, and will become so arrogant in their quest to prove the competing car's inferiority, they will disrespect cars for no good reason, or tout about meaningless advantages that their cars contain. I've very much been guilty in the past, but intend to right my wrongs.
In summation, bravo to this guy!

Well depending on the year it was probably nice to get behind a car that had an engine that met the weight of the car. Remember all cars nowdays are heavy as hell compared to a 240Z.
Progress:
Z32 Had to sell for DD 06 Sentra :(
S30 one of these days I will get around to putting it all back together.

you know today i was looking at this 86 porsche 944 turbo (951), and kind of daydreaming about owning it. I started thinking seriously, "why not?" So I began reading about common problems. Holy crap! Changing thermostat is like 6 hour job??? So I started looking up prices for common parts (water pump in particular). Like $400 for a water pump!! ugghh,, no thanks.. I'll stick with the Z.

Thanks guys, I just got back from his party. He was pretty drunk but he kept introducing me as the guy with the "done up 72 240Z". Funny to be in the millionaire crowd and have him talking about a Datsun like it's a Ferrari....LOL.
edit- I'm going out tommorow morning to get a couple shots of the car with the center caps on and a quick detail for my Cardomain page. If anyone is going to be up at Four Corners in Woodside I will probably swing by Alice's for breakfast around 7:45.

hey trippint10 those 944 are an excellent handling porcshe despite maint. cost. i used to work for a guy that had 4 911s and used to have a 944 and said the 944 could take corners faster than any of them. they were all stock suspensions by the way. i almost bought a nonturbo when i was 18 but got a jeep instead, which i still wish i had as well, but then i got a z, had about 5 since. mostly parts cars, but i'll never forget the way the 944 handled and i'm getting my dad a 914 in the next few weeks since he is working his way into rehab for his leg soon.

Almost everyone I work with has had a Z at one point or another and they all regret selling them. I'll be damned if I'm going to end up with that kind of guilt on my conscience. Last compliment I got was at a stop light from a guy who was a car salesman for nissan when they were new. To quote "I can't believe I never bought one of those cars...how much you want for it"
1972 240z w/L28, tokico shocks and springs, and a 5 speed waiting. Also running high performance ultra mega blinker fluid, that's at least an extra 50hp to the wheels.
1987 Toyota Supra Turbo 5-speed. Belongs to me until my friend get's back from Iraq.

How about the 944 with a motor swap like and SR20 or KA20 and oh 20 some odd pounds of boost. Wonder how hard it would be to match it up to the drivetrain.
I just passed over a 944 with a clean body, worn interior, but it is 5spd car and runs. For $1500 I was thinking good donor chassis for a simple motor. Any one see anything like this before?
