Lucas Oil for 1990TT

General Chat

Q:

I need to change the oil in the TT I just bought. I am wondering if there is any issues I should worry about with the Twin Turbos and Lucas Oil Treatment. Is it going to be to thick for the turbos or will it be just fine.

This was discussed earlier and is in teh archives, I believe (don't think that one got clipped).
Why on earth do you think you need a supplement to your oil? What is your logic behind wanting to add it?
Want to make a bet what your oil supplier's warranty will buy you after you adulterate their additive package with someone elses?

Tony D,
I saw that it was discussed earlier but no info on the turbo factor. Plus people don't change the Subject line so you get every post not just the thread or subject your looking for.
As far as needing the supplement I don't really need it. The car does. LOL
I know that it can help with lack of oil at start up and also has been helpful on Smokey valve seals (when starting). My little brother had smoke at start up on his 1990 RS Camero and Lucas has helped the leaky valve seals.
I was just wondering if it would cause problems with an oiled turbo.
I know that Castrol, Quakerstate and the rest would laugh at you if tried to get warranty repairs from there oil with an additive.

Try auto-rx. Hands down, this stuff's the real deal and I've tried every "snake oil" additive there is over the years.

Wow, I'm actually agreeing with Tony. Lucas has been shown on paper and in videos to cause all sorts of bizarre oil changes, so NO, I wouldn't recommend it. Use a good synthetic like Mobil 1 Full Syn and call it a day.
Think about it: if Lucas was so wonderful, auto manufacturers would recommend using it or include it in their oil changes.

Camaro.
Doesn't sound like it helped anything, it just masked the fact that the valve seals are bad. Imagine what it must do to a turbo if it can gum up your valve seals!

I don't buy the whole addative marketing scheme, but evidently there are throngs of eager, deep pocketed buyers who "need" that extra "protection" that regular old oil, and synthetice can't provide.
I suppose it's good for the economy, so yes, go ahead and use it at every oil change.
