General Chat

Q:

I know this is a completely random question, and it has nothing to do with zcars. But does anybody know what Audi's reputation on mileage is?? Is 114,000 alot for a 99 A4??
A:

i have a 99 acura with 160000 miles on it so probably not and my z only has 126880
A:

I have a friend who has an audi with160K on it, thats all I know.
I'm shocked the moderators didn't delete this a minute after you posted it! i mean God forbids you ask anything else other than a z31 question or post a funny picture or a link to a video!! that would be a F*&^%*& crime!!

for a 7 yr old car......114 isnt too bad......average is between 12k-15k a year
I've heard good thing about audis, but the problem lies in the cost of maintance, and general repair...

Audi/ VW = garbage! Do your research

They are cool cars, but do not expect Japanese reliability. And, maintenance costs are very high. Also, which motor? 1.8T or 2.8? 1.8T is famous for destroying itself!

Those survey sites are a bit misleading. You only hear from the guys who have had a bad experience. The people who didn't are out driving and enjoying their cars. It's the same with all car companies.
I've heard good things and bad things about Audi/VW. In general, the Audi engines are good for high mileage. You have to remember these aren't domestic "muscle car" type engines. Most domestic cars it seems begin to fall apart after 100k, some don't. Some Euopean cars do the same, it all depends on how the engine was cared for. If the oil changes were on time, and the little problems were fixed before they became bigger issues, then it should be fine.

my A6 has 128,000 on it. burns a lot of oil.
A:

Considering 114,000 miles is 182,000 kms which is more than all of my Z31's have done in 20 years vs a 7 year Audi then I'd say that's a helluva lot! That's like 26,000kms a year!

Friend of mine had a 97 A4. Needed to replace a steering rack and air cond compressor. He always commented on how much he liked the car. (Has an Accura TL now & only likes the stereo.) The battery box drain on the A4 got stopped up, leaked on some electronics & fried the computer. Insurance eventually paid off but totaled the car because of new parts & labor costs. Everything but the electronics was immaculate.
Anyone can drive a new car.
A:

I work with a bunch of guys who drive Audis and the number one complaint I hear is electronics Gremlins.

Audi is a five year automobile. Most cost projections are based on five years and many automakers, especially european and american makers build their cars to reflect a low 5 year cost of ownership figure. After the five years is up the cars begin to fall apart. Audi makes some bulletproof drivetrains, but the rest of the car will cost some serious $$$ to fix and maintain after five years. Figure an average of $3,000 to $5,000 annually. My favorite is the A8 and S class cars. The annual maintenance costs are way higher than the resale of the cars. Did you ever wonder why you can buy these 50-80k dollar cars for alot less than 10k after 5-7 years? If something sounds too good to be true....
