Q:

So I have decided to go out and have some fun on my 2+2 before I could do any of the changes to the drive train, just to see how well is my stock engine is doing.
So this is at Race Legal
I had 3 runs before I said I quit
first against the mini couper (should have won)
both our reaction time was just say very slow (1.010 for me and 0.939 for him). I cought up with him and started to get ahead but then I just could not get passed 5grand on the tach in second gear
so 10.762 @ 69.12 mph (me) and 10.412 @ 70.09 mph (him) for the 1/8th mile
Second I was going against honda civic. I could not shiffted well into second and also he had some problem so
11.122 @ 58.21 me and 13.989 @ 36.76 (him)
third time I just false started and got killed by the dodge srt4 by a full second
(9.98 vs. 10.94)
Analysis my clutch slips like a mother. It was so bad after the last run there was a clutch smell for long long time near the car. So action to do is to change the clutch. and the gear box.

69 mph in second gear reflects on 7000rpm but I remember seeing less then 7000 rpm on the engine. But let's analyse this later after I have a second run with a new clutch and tranny

once you start slipping your clutch, it's hard to get it to hook up till it's had a break.
Do you have stock gears and tranny? 3.54 and an early tranny aren't so great for 1/8 mile.
See if you can score on some 3.90's from a local u-pull...you'll love how it feels compared to the stock gears!

Are you sure its the clutch? Typically if your clutch is slipping your RPM's will rise and your car just won't go any faster. You described that the car wouldn't go over 5000rpm...that doesn't sound like the clutch to me. Your tach doesn't read off the transmission or driveline It reads off the spark on the engine.

i did a 10.20 in the 1/8 with my 82 with 3.9 gears and the early 5 speed. had 265K on the odometer at the time. i was crossing the line in the top of second but could probably run a tick faster if i would have shifted earlier cause i think the trap speed was 67? maybe, can't remember for sure. have it on tape somewhere, i killed my friends ZX3 focus by a second.
