Aerodynamics? (Large Photos, 3Ea.)

General Chat

Q:

People asking about a Chop-Top & Bigger Spoiler affecting the airflow aff the back of an S30, here is a nice photo from last weekend of someone with a 380CID Chevy-Powered V8 Conversion S30 doing 166.932mph...
About 3mph faster than the Six Cylindered car we ran there in years past.
Finally, a V-8 Z that is actually faster than our N/A Inline Six powered car!
Compare the dust against this one going 262.750mph (Powered by Megasquirt!)
I guess he was having a bad day.... DOH! Speed counts wether you exit the traps forward, or in reverse....LOL

Huge difference in the air off the back. Man if you were around the back of that Z you'd get covered in dust, whereas the streamliner would barely get your shoes dirty!
Cool pics Tony, that Z's not in the same class as Andy's car is it with the body mods?

They are going against a 213mph Class Record. They have a long way to go for that!
Records and monthly meet results are found (along with links to other land speed event venues) at:
http://www.scta-bni.org
Click on ElMirage and you can pick out the months and various pages of vehicles. They post the thumbnail, usually with speed and record they are going against. Click on the thumbnail to see the larger photos I post.

Yeah, I'd say they've got some speed to pick up for sure. Do these people not inspect or look closely at you/andy's car? Or does everyone keep things hidden.
You have been doing this for soo many years now, I'd think somone else would learn from the modifications and setup of your car.

"You have been doing this for soo many years now, I'd think somone else would learn from the modifications and setup of your car."
You would think so, huh?
Not so much this car, but others simply can't be reading the rules. A G-Nose on a coupe would keep the car in GT class.
In GT Class, they can LEGALLY run a N/A RB 30! If they wanted to, they could stick a freaking Titan V8 in there making 700+HP at 8500rpm, and KICK SOME SERIOUS TAIL! The GT classes in F and E are not that fast at El Mirage, we have even been considering using one of my chassis for a GT setup (S130) as the next step in evolution of the car.
But yeah, this guy with a G-Nose would be going MUCH faster. But who am I, but a guy running a "Little Corn-Popper Jap Engine"
This guy with the orange car is cool, though. The engine was in an Opel GT before he endoed it six times....after his wife went into a flat-spin at over 140 and did several complete rotations earlier in the same day! She "was through for the day" but he decided to make another pass. Like he said, the only thing that survived "was me, and the engine!"
So it's a wife and husband team that drives that Z-Car, have a nice 35' Trailer Rig. But yeah, what you "think " works may not....
But I can only suggest things, they own the car. I wish I had photos of the idiot with the "cow catcher" front end on his Z---he SWEARS it was designed by a guy who was an "aerodynamic engineer"---looks like a snowplow from Minnesota! His best time was like 155 with dual quads and a tunnel ram.
The orange Z has a low rise edelbrock manifold and a single four barrel...
So as it happens on this board, so does it happen in the rest of the world: there are those who "bolt on what everybody says makes big power" and ge a bling bling mobile, and those who have a dirty, functional fast as a greased pig on acid car...
A a meet earlier this year, I did see a wheel take off an go off to the horizon... So there are Gilligans here, as well! LOL

take that V8's! That's actually really inspiring. Good pics Tony!
1972 240z w/L28, tokico shocks and springs, and a 5 speed waiting. Also running high performance ultra mega blinker fluid, that's at least an extra 50hp to the wheels.
1987 Toyota Supra Turbo 5-speed. Belongs to me until my friend get's back from Iraq.
