Non-Z engine rebuild

General Chat

Q:

Rebuilding a 4EZ1 (4-banger) motor for an Isuzu Amigo. It's a 4X4 and the FSM indicates a different oil pan gasket than the 2-wheel drive. However, it does not SHOW a gasket in the picture in the FSM, and no 'alternative' gasket came in the set. What it does show is two half-circle rubber gaskets for the ends of the pan that fit around the crank — no prob, got those — and then it says to use "XYZ123" (or some code) of sealer for the main part of the pan flange.
Have any of you run into this before? I never have. Will that universal goop stuff that I've used for rear end pumpkins work in this application or will I have to grab some (likely expensive) Isuzu OEM goop? I do know that silicon sealer is probably a poor choice in this application.
Thanks much in advance.

Nothing wrong w/ RTV if done properly. Just don't use too much or over-tighten the pan until the stuff sets up overnight. I prefer the GE red Hi-Temp stuff.
Rusty but running.
Polish cell phone and two tubes of Aluma-seal.
And, now we are historic.
