I have aquired a Z about 3 years ago... however during the time i had the Z I lost the title, wait it gets better... I havent had the title transfered over yet into my name, as I had bought the Z and parked it int he gargage and was a work in progress.. here in my state, you pay personal property tax on a car even if its running or not.. well recently i have moved, and low and behold I found the title it was stored in with another paper and hidden in the file cabinet! it was 3 years ago in august when the lady that owned the car had put the date.. aug 26 2003 it says.. what kind of problems will i have if i take this title to the DMV? should i tell them right away why the date is so old? or should i play dumb and act like she put the wrong date? or perhaps attempt to change the 3 to a 6? i just put a new engine/turbo and did a 5 speed swap over the summer since i was moving to a place that doesnt have a garage.. so I need to get this car legal or will have to pay for a garage cuz I cant have any cars not legal at this new place I moved to, if i cant get this car legal by the end of the week I will have to pay a storage fee for a gargage so i dont lose the car..
help me with any advice you can offer please!

Just take it in and transfer it (finally). Of course there should be interest. No need to compound a misdemeanor with a felony.

What state are you in? In some states, if you sign an affadavit (accompanied by receipts) that the vehicle was garaged and worked on (i.e. "off the road") you won't be penalized...and NO! Don't compound your problems by lying!

just pay the 3 yrs back tax on the vehicle like everyone else has to.

Just go and tell them the truth..its just been sittin so no big deal...if you have to pay some back taxes just pay it....they see that kind of thing all the time...

The previous owner may have been paying these taxes (I would not think so, but...) so there may be no penalty.

Advocate turning the "3" into an "8" using a compatible pen and then waiting the two years to finish the project and then do the transfer....
That would be highly illegal, and document forgery. It could land you in heap big trouble if one of those sharp-witted DMV Types caught the alteration...
