Agreed - great photo, and a fine cross section of cool cars. Just out of curiosity, do any of you know what the red one is to the left of the orange Elan? That thing is quite low-slung, even compared to all the other low-slung cars in that pic...
A:
Red one is a Piper GTT http://www.motorbase.com/vehicle/by-id/198/

Hey, thanks. Interesting ride. It looks like the driver's helmet is right up against the roof in that thing.
You know, the technology and capability of modern purebred race cars is pretty astonishing, but there are very few that can stir up my passion the way a group of vintage vehicles like the ones pictured above can. I don't know, I think it has something to do with the fact that these days, everything is so precicely calculated and tightly regulated that there seems to be very little variance from one car to the next, wheras back in the day, it seems like it was innovation, and the ability and drive to take a different approach than your competitor, that brought home trophies. You don't really see the modern equivalent of little 4-cylinder Lotus Sevens and Elans (and Piper GTs) going up against big old Jaguars much, and most certainly not in highly publicized racing events. Then again, maybe I'm just not looking in the right places.
