Q:
hey turbo guys i was curious:
i was thinkin of doin a junkyard turbo (just for fun :)
i have a 2001 cavy 2.2 auto
i was thinkin of snaggin up a stock 280zx turbo or even a stock suby turbo(older maybe early 90's)
i will make my own manifold at work *cheaper*
I would use a side mount intercooler from a 1g talon/eclipse.
Now i dont think i would need injectors because i would keep the boost low. probably 6 psi and i dont think i would need engine management.
what kind of power would an old setup like that put out? im thinkin MAYBE 40 hp.. i dont care if you guys think it would be a waste of money blah blah..i dont want no crap!, just some suggestions :)
THanks guys
David

Well even with just a 40 horse pick up(if you could even get that) It would be a hell of a sleeper. Stock the 2.2 has 140 horses, 180 on that car would be QUICK.

Cavalier Tranny probably wouldn't last a week on boost.

I've heard of this done on an Eclipse GS, Hanhs Race Craft makes a low boost kit that puts out around 220-230 HP on stock internals with the 420A Eclipse/Neon motor and I know they make one for the Cavalier 2.2L. Pretty similar to what you are talking about. I imagine you could be in the 200+ range and low 13's with a setup like that if it's tuned properly and the tranny holds up. Would definetly surprise some people.

"you can have all the HP in the world but you still wont have a dime of torque"
plus those cars are extremely weak chassis wise, drove one into a bush and the bush won..lol

The Cavalier tans would probably last just fine with low boost. They are actually pretty tough. They run them behind V6 engines on the test stands. Like stated above, even 40 Hp would be noticed. Would be a fun project. If nothing else, you will learn a little about engine building.

my 2.2 is pre-eco so i only have 115 :) and my tranny has been rebuilt already...not a FULL rebuild but something was fixed on it(dont remember what)
Im really lookin forward to it...im lookin to only spend MAYBE 500...i want a full junikyard setup...the piping will probably be new of course.
i already drew up how it would mount and everything..maybe ill get my picture on here for everyone to look at.. and see my awesome drawing abilities :)
thanks for the input guys
OH and about a kit from someone, im not looking to spend that kind of money..i dont want a kit..I want to put it all together.
it would be a sleeper.. 40 hp on it may only give me a 16 second car though, but compared to a 20 second 1320 thats definately an improvement
