Monkeys at the local garage ...

I am shocked they considered it totaled.?. I wish I had some money to buy it from the insurance company.
A:

Interesting to see the underneath of it, totally streamlined.

I'm just guessing here but I'm thinking somebody probably lost his job that day, but I have been wrong before! LOL! You know that owner is gonna be pissed!

If that Lotus was mine:
I would have taken off the wheels, bring them to the shop and have the workers put the tires on the rims. Then I would have brought the wheels home and put them on the Lotus myself.
I never understood why people would let a bunch of high school diploma monkeys/drop-outs work on their cars.
....or wash their car at the car-wash,
....or let strangers DRIVE their expensive car when they have valet parking,
etc. etc.

What moron put it that high up in the air to change tires? The shop that does high end cars locally here never lifts the cars tires more than 2" off the ground when changing them.
I now pull my rims off at home on some of my cars instead of letting some min wage newbie learn on my car how to lift etc..
after seeing the other pics of the "workers" in the background there aint no way in hell id leave my car unwatched with them.

I'm with Brian and 'soze on this one. The local tire place bent up my lower fender with the lift even after I explained the jacking points. From now on, I'm bringing the tire shop a stack of wheels. And, I too will never valet park... that's something I just don't understand either.

Hi folks,
The owner says, "Dammit!!!! And I have the Central Florida Lotus Fun Run on Saturday which I've been organizing. Guess I'll have to drive the 911."
I WANT THIS MAN'S PROBLEMS!!! I feel bad for this guy but I'll take his problems to mine any day.

He can take it on the fun run. There aint a damn thing wrong with it driveability wise.
Totalled my ass...It aint anywhere near totalled at about 20K in damage and no more and easy fixes. He just wants a new one cause its on good years policy and i dont blame him.
Hell the cost of it is 15 guys yearly wages at Goodyear..LOL

I wouldn't call that totaled personally. Needs some work though. I like the look of the Elise, I'd take one. I ALWAYS watch and observe others when working on any of my cars. I only let others do things I KNOW I can't do myself.

How could a person screw up that bad and drop an elise off a lift? I've never even come cose to dropping a car. The first thing you learn about lift safety is the shake trest, raise it till it's off the ground then shake it to make sure it's stable.
I dont see that car having more damage than the car is worth, that car is worth $30k easy.

Hey JML77250z,
"...I WANT THIS MAN'S PROBLEMS!!! I feel bad for this guy but I'll take his problems to mine any day..."
You may want to re-think that thought. If you look on the home page of where the other photos of the car are, you'll see that his son is in really bad shape.
Didn't mean this post in a bad way, just passing on some info.
A:

First off, there is no way that Elise is totalled.
That only looks like a few grand damage.
Maybe the frame is bent?
Second, that child brings forth a sh!t load of ethical questions.
(none of which will be discussed, but jeez)

I would believe that its totaled. Carbon fibre bodys not to mention ones that are built extremely light are probably one or two piece designs. If the rear engine frame is cracked you would have to replace the entire frame, not to mention all the body panels etc. Im also one of those guys that after a crash feels it will never drive the same again.
Its not that expensive of a vehicle, only about $35,000. I could see 20k of damage from the pictures.

Yup, I can very easily see it totalled. if the car is worth 35k, that means after about 15-20k in damages it will get totalled.
these things add up quickly....Ive seen porches with relatively minor damage on them, and the repair estimate is something like 27k!!!!

it's not being dropped. it's so light it's being lifted up onto the lift by the guy on the left.

The frame on those are supposed to be glued! I'd consider it totaled if it got dropped.

If it is carbon fiber then the frame is toast -- hairline cracks and withing a year of driving, the car is in pieces.
