im sitting at a red light today in my maxima and a new hemi charger pulls up next to me. the guy revs his motor and i looked over at him and started laughing so hard i couldnt stop. this new charger was painted yellow with black strips- it looked like a taxi cab. you know the old checker cabs, well the charger reminded me of that. what made me laugh so hard was the thought of my maxima in a race against a checker cab. i think i offended the guy in the charger cause when the light turned green he turned from the non turning lane and drove away. i laughed all the way home thinking about how much money that guy spent to get a car that looks like a taxi!!

There was one down at P.I.R the other night and he was running 15's. Reviews said high 13's. Guess that's with professional driver on board. Guess you don't like the new chargers? Me neither. An arch nemesis bought one and now I like them even less!

the new chargers are the same as if nissan turned out a 6000 lb 4 door boat and called it a z. dodge should be ashamed of themselves for b&stardizing the charger name. they should have called the dodge 300 since it looks so much like the chrysler 300. i just cant get into a car that has a front end shaped like a billboard and racing stripes. it is as if dodge was trying to make a larger body ricer.
if they make a new challenger i hope they stick to the cocpt design we saw a while back and dont screw this one up too. oh wait they alredy screwed up the challenger namesake with that little 4 cylinder piece of crap they turned out in the 80s with the challenger name. why dont they hire " car guys" to help with designs? some of these new cars must have been designed by guys who drive caddys and lincolns.

im not totally against the new charger, although im not very fond of it. I mean it made business sense i guess, they had to share platforms and i guess they thought the name would help it sell which it probably has a bit. However, I went to an autshow a little while back and good lord, i couldnt believe how massive they were. They're just so incredibly large it's rediculous. Some of you complain about the 350 being too big but jesus some of the new cars out of detroit are quite frankly insane. I was beside myself. Not saying that the old cars werent large either but c'mon, it's a little too much.

I have to agree with zxtoy on this one. Many moons ago I had a 1969 Chevelle Malibu. That was a good looking car. Last week when I was in Michigan I rented a "Malibu" for a few days for a drive to Pa. I still can't get over what they called a Malibu. Not a bad car, just not a Malibu. Who did they think they were fooling?
What I can practically guarantee is that if G.M re-released the 67 Corvette with all the current emissions and technical stuff but just put it in a 67 frame and shell, they could not keep them in the showrooms. I wonder why I know that and G.M. doesn't. Nissan kind of screwed the pooch on the 350Z in my opinion. Why not style a car based upon the highest selling series Z? This is not rocket science. I think the 350Z is a heck of a car. I just hate to have to look at them. Really, they could have done better. I would have liked to see the team who came up with (retro) Ford Mustang take a whack at the Z.
Most of the cars today seem to lack any distinctive styling. They all look pretty much alike to me. Back in 1974, anybody who knew anything about cars would not mistake my 69 Chevelle for anything else.

My dad had a beautiful 69 chevelle SS with a 396, factory tach and buckets, yolk yellow - and he traded it in on a 75 B210 because of the gas crunch.
Sometimes you just can't improve on perfection and shouldn't even try. It's like a bad remake of a good song; can you really improve on the beatles?
My brother rented a Magnum when we were in San Diego this summer and it handled like a tank, maybe worse. It had all the interior warmth as a spring day in antarctica, and I so wanted to put flags mounted on the fenders to finish the look of the car.

The SR8 Charger is fast for a boat. I've seen them run 8.50's all night long in the 1/8 mile which would equate to a 13.4 in the 1/4 mile.

I have rented a magnum and not impressed with it at all.
I have been in a new charger a few times and the performance is not bad for a heavy four door sedan. The R/T package really does not look good, but the SRT-8 package looks nice and is very fast, but for that much money there are many others cars to look at and buy.

Hmm,
New charger weighs about the same as the old charger, painted in a color scheme similar to the old Super Bee, and performance on the new one is better in quarter mle and fuel economy than the old one plus corners better, stops better, rides better, and has a better sound system plus electronic gyzmos they didn't even have on Star Trek when the first charger was out.
Everone has thier own taste as far as color schemes go. His was an obviously successful attempt to get a lot of attention.

yea it was the color with the front end shape -it looked like an old checker taxi cab!! and dont be dissin my maxima it is 2/3 the size of the charger and is surprisingly fast, not that i want to race it but it is really quick for a 4 door car with every available option and a bose sound system!
and in all sincerity the 2001 maxima is a better looking car than the 2006 charger. im an old mopar fan from way back but there used to be a difference between mopars big boat luxury cars and their fast muscle cars. if you took all the emblems and paint off a chrysler 300 and a dodge charger and parked them side by side the average person could not tell which is which. if i buy a fast muscle car i damn sure want it to look like a fast muscle car and not my insurance salesmans 4 door luxury car ( my state farm agent actually drives an 06 chrysler 300).
i would be curios to see the sales figures for the 06 mustang compared to the 06 charger as the new mustang is designed to look like a muscle car .
maybe dodges target audience for the charger is soccer moms and 60 +year old men . just putting the name charger on a 4door boat isnt going to make me feel all warm and fuzzzzzy nostalgic and run out and buy one.
if nissan made a 4door 6000 lb. station wagon and put the z name on it would anyone here run out and buy one??

I don't think a Viper is poo poo at all.
Also the Ram SRT-10 is nothing to laugh at either.
I am on my second 350z and probably will not go to any other brand of cars or trucks, but I have to give credit where it is due.

The police chargers, many of which are V6's cause they are fast enough, lol, with the hemi run low 15's and top at 145mph with the light bar. It is slower than my 95 5.0 stang that is very close to stock.
I wouldn't hesitate to run one at all in my 93 max 5spd.

ummmm.....the 79-83 Z was a 280 not a 300.
