I have noticed a rather larger increase in spam/porn to our site thus propose a solution. I got the idea from a maxima forums. To cut down on spam , they set a min. amount of posts before you can post a new topic, say 15 posts before you can post. The way to get to 15 post is to reply to topics already posted. This seems to work well in cutting down spam and "dumb" questions. I just thought I throw my idea out there.

Then I think the spammers would just spam on the existing threads, which is even worse for a person wanting to find an answer to their question. Copy and paste on 3 threads on the 5 sections.

Hi folks,
I look at these idiots as the price you pay for doing business. Kind of like fleas on your dog. You don't want to get rid of the dog to fix the flea problem. I can appreciate the suggestions but I hate to see the rest of us have to take a step back (in whatever form that is) for the episodes of a few idiots. I think the moderator(s) do a pretty good job of keeping the board as clean as is reasonably possible while still allowing the participants a reasonable amount of freedom. I would hate to see more restrictions placed on the use of this board.

I agree with JML to a point, but it seems like every time I get on this forum, there is always a topic of some kind of spam, yes zxtoy it does sometimes link to porn. But I will give into the fact that our moderators do a wondeful clean-up job/damage control as far as spam and porn topics go. I was just trying to suggest a little preventative maintenance.

I know what your talking about on the maxima forum and to be perfectly honest that is the most frustrating thing I have had on a forum. I can tell there is a wealth of info on that site much like this one.
All I needed to do was search about some engine parts questions that I know had been answered. I could not even use the search function, so I had to respond to a bunch of people and questions that really had nothing to do with anything before I could finally post or search. By that time I had already got ahold of someone and got everything I needed.
That preventative measure makes the site not very useful for someone new whom just wants some quick info/answers.

If it doesn't allow new users to use the 'Search' function, it's a completely broken 'solution' and useless.
If anything, they should only be allowed to USE the search function!

ya I just joined that site. I just bought a Maxima.
I had some questions about the car, when I was looking at them.
It was a pain to get in 15 replies before I could post my question.
But it does make it harder to add spam to the site.

ok i looked around the tech forums a little closer and found what you are talking about. yes we do not need that type of spam here. and yes the moderators are doing a FIRST RATE job of cleaning out the trash. they are to be commended for their efforts! i also would not like to see the 15 post limit for posting here. we have a good system and if we ignore the spammers until the moderators can locate and delete their posts maybe some of them will go away. the best response to a spammers post is to totally ignore them.
