Done with twice pipes exhaust!

General Chat

Q:

Finished it today. Had it done yesterday but it was too low, so I redid the rear today.
It's more tucked up then my stock one was except at the very front near the headers.
Setup is the MSA coated 3-2 headers with full dual setup front to rear. It's very deep at idle with a god awful drone at 2.5k rpms but it really quiets up above or below that. When you punch it it absolutely screams!
Car pulls all the way to redline very linearly now, doesn't seem like it's running out of breath like it used to.
I want to design my own intake (and fabricate it at school) to supercharge it with the stock hood. I know it's not the best setup but I want something a little different =D.

Did you connect them together via an H pipe or an X - cross over.

I've never heard the twice pipes before your video, now I want them even more.

Your loosing alot of scavanging when you dont use a single built collector. I would use a single collector, for correct scavanging, of a 3" diameter, then if you want the twice looks just split it toward the rear of the car. What size pipes are you running? Do they go to the rear of the car on the same side or opposite sides? Now time for an intake, flat top block, ported nice head and youll be in the 13's!! Well not up in flag, but down here you would be. MS?

Thats why I asked about an H pipe or X - cross. The headers are designed (especialy the 2 into 1) so that it fires on one side of a set of 3 tubes than the other. This sets up vaccum pulses for scavenging.

dammit.... please don't tell me this....
I was looking at some old posted exhausts and some others online that had them fully split, so i decided to go with it.
They are a tiny bit above 1 3/4 pipe each, with 2in pipe till about all the way down the tranny. Should be about the same as about a 2.5in single pipe.
They are pretty loud, I'm thinking of changing the 2 glass packs for actual mufflers, or at least some spiral flows.

Pi times R^2=A
So,
2.405 square inches of area on one 1.75 pipe, times that by two, and you have 4.81.
4.9, thats what a single 2.5 inch diameter cross section is in square inches.
I would of gone with a single 2.5 or 3" diameter pipe if I were you, Scavenge is TONS better. I think the sound is better too, as a 3 cylinder pipe is too poppy, sorta like a harley. Its all personal prefernce on sound though.
Do they come out on the same or seperate sides?

pi * (1.75)^2 = 9.62 * 2 = 19.242 cross sectional area of two 1.75in pipes.
pi * (2.5)^2 = 19.634 crossection area of 2.5 inch pipe.
They're pretty close. I agree though, it's all in the preferrence of sound. I really like how they sound, it's unlike anything I've personally heard of before, where as most single pipe Zs sound almost identical. Plus the popping on downshifts make it sound so aggressive haha.
They come out the same side, it just looks like a dual tip muffler on one side.
