Looking at a 1990 Galant GSX...any opinions?

Q:

Tomorrow I'm going to look at a Mitsubishi Galant GSX for a winter car. They are the N/A AWD version. Has anybody owned one of these or know weak points to look for?
I really want to get a VR-4 Galant but there aren't any for sale around here and I want to get the car in reliable shape before the snow starts to fall, and who knows maybe next summer I will do a turbo swap while I drive my Z...

depending on the price, you should BUY it... i have never heard of an awd non turbo galant.. i know there were only a few thousand vr4's made.. i imagine there were even less non turbo awd and you can allways do the turbo swap..

My son has had 2 VR4's and loves them. He calls them his snowmobiles - great winter cars. As for what to look for, make sure the motor has had it's 60,000 maintenance some time in its life. Timing belt and idlers should be changed with that maintenance, or many bad things happen. It is an interference motor so valves bend quickly. If there are lots of miles on the car the counter-balance shafts are also a concern. The 2.0 liter Mitsu motor has awesome potential, we are putting down 450HP at the wheels on his current VR4.
Happy Galanting.

Well I looked at it last night and I am going to buy it. It is a rare car and was only made in 90. A good thing is it shares the same drive train as all the AWD Talons, lasers, Eclipses so parts will be easy to find. I do plan on doing a turbo swap next year when my 280 is done. Its a pretty cool little car and I need something for the winter here.
